  1. 21. Glutamate for metabolic intervention in coronary surgery : with special reference to the GLUTAMICS-trial

    Författare :Mårten Vidlund; Rolf Svedjeholm; Torbjörn Ivert; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; myocardial ischemia; coronary artery bypass; cardiac surgery; acute coronary syndrome; glutamate; metabolic intervention; postoperative heart failure; myocardial recovery; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Myocardial ischemia is a major cause of postoperative heart failure and adverse outcome in coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG). Conventional treatment of postoperative heart failure with inotropic drugs may aggravate underlying ischemic injury. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Risk stratification in cardiac surgery: Algorithms and applications

    Författare :Johan Nilsson; Thoraxkirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; Cardiac surgery; Statistics; Artificial neural networks; Resource utilization; Mortality; Risk factors; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of this research was to compare different risk score algorithms with regard to their validity to predict 30-day and one-year mortality after open-heart surgery, to evaluate if the preoperative risk stratification model EuroSCORE predicts the different components of resource utilization in cardiac surgery, and to systematically evaluate the accuracy and performance of artificial neural networks (ANNs) to select and rank the most important risk factors for operative mortality in open-heart surgery. Preoperative evaluation of the surgical risk is an important component in cardiac surgery. LÄS MER

  3. 23. A Laparoscopic Approach in Gastro-Oesophageal Surgery : Experimental and Epidemiological Studies

    Författare :Rune Sandbu; Bo Anderberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Gastro-oesophageal surgery; fundoplication; laparoscopy; long-term results; pneumothorax; intra-cranial pressure; positive end-expiratory pressure; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Surgery; kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : The extension of laparoscopic procedures into the chest may induce specific pathophysiologic effects.In pigs, we have demonstrated how devastating a combined thoraco-laparoscopic approach can be for gas exchange. Furthermore, the transmission of elevated pressure intra-cranially is a potential danger. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Cerebrovascular accidents associated with aortic manipulation during cardiac surgery

    Författare :Patrik Boivie; Gunnar Engström; Magnus Hansson; Henrik Ahn; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; aortic atherosclerosis; aortic cannulation; aortic cross-clamp; cardiac surgery; cerebral protection; cerebrovascular accidents; epiaortic ultrasound; intra-aortic filter; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Thoracic and Cardivascular Suregery; kirurgi; särskilt thoraxkirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Despite the successful development in cardiac surgery, cerebrovascular accidents (CVA) remain a devastating complication. Aortic atherosclerosis has been identified as a major risk factor for CVA. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Corticosteroids in Lumbar Disc Surgery

    Författare :Anders Lundin; Olle Nilsson; Björn Rydevik; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; lumbar disc heniation; corticosteroids; outcome; thermal quantitative sensory testing; QST; VAS; disability rating index; DRI; microscopic discectomy; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : In a prospective randomised double-blind study eighty patients with MRI verified lumbar disc herniation and corresponding clinical findings underwent microscopic disc removal. The patients were peroperatively given systemic and local corticosteroids or placebo, and followed for 2 years. LÄS MER
