1. Experimental and Clinical Studies of Oxidative Stress in Pre-Eclampsia
Sammanfattning : Impaired placentation and oxidative stress are proposed to play major roles in the pathogenesis of pre-eclampsia (PE). It has recently been pointed out that PE might be more than one disease and may have several different pathogeneses. LÄS MER
2. Growth regulation in sarcomas : studies in vivo and in cell culture
Sammanfattning : Sarcomas are malignant tumors of mesenchymal origin, and can arise in soft-tissue and in bones. It has been suggested that the abnormal growth regulation in sarcoma cells may be due to an autocrine mechanism, in which the cells are stimulated by an endogenous production of growth factors. 3. Development and application of new methods for anticancer drug discovery and early evaluation
Sammanfattning : A non-clonogenic assay using the redox dye Alamar Blue and primary human tumor cells (PHTC) from patients and human tumor cell lines (HTCL) was established for rapid screening and evaluation of anticancer drugs. PHTC cultures from chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and ovarian carcinoma (Ovca) were compared with renal carcinoma (ACHN) and lymphocytic (CCRF-CEM) HTLCs in response to 63 toxic or non-toxic compounds. 4. Involvement of Heparan Sulphate Biosynthesis and Turnover in Cell Proliferation. A Novel Role for Nitric Oxide in Recycling of Heparan Sulphate Proteoglycans
Sammanfattning : The present investigation focuses on the role of HS metabolism in cell proliferation. The effect of the HS priming ß-D-xyloside, 2-(6-hydroxynaphthyl)-O-ß-D-xylopyranoside (Xyl-2-Nap-6-OH) on the proliferation of normal and transformed cells was studied. LÄS MER
5. Novel in vivo therapeutic approaches to Escherichia coli O157:H7 infection
Sammanfattning : Shiga toxin (Stx), the unique virulence factor released by enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC), associated with gastrointestinal infection and in severe cases hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). Up until now, no effective therapies have been developed to control disease progression. LÄS MER
