  1. 1. Lipid sponge phase nanostructures as carriers for enzymes

    Författare :Maria Valldeperas Badell; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sponge phase; lipid liquid crystals; DGMO; GMO-50; polysorbate 80; encapsulation of proteins; Aspartic protease; β-galactosidase; X-ray and neutron scattering; Raman spectroscopy; adsorption; cryo-TEM;

    Sammanfattning : Nonlamellar lipid liquid crystalline phases have many potential applications, such as for drug delivery, protein encapsulation or crystallization. Lipid liquid crystalline sponge phase (L3) has so far not been very much considered in these applications, in spite of apparent advantages in terms of its flexibility and capacity of forming large aqueous pores able to encapsulate large bioactive molecules. 2. 2. Equilibrium and Nonequilibrium Properties of Nonionic Surfactant Membranes

    Författare :Thao Le; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; lamellar; multilamellar vesicle; small-angle x-ray scattering SAXS ; small-angle neutron scattering SANS ; static light scattering SLS ; joule heating temperature jump JHTJ ; dynamic light scattering DLS ; Nonionic surfactants; sponge; elastic curvature energy; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : An extensive investigation of the multilamellar vesicles (La*), lamellar (La), and multiply connected sponge (L3) phase formed in surfactant systems is presented in this thesis. These membrane structures were studied using surfactant systems containing poly(oxyethylene) alkyl ethers, n-CnH2n+1(OCH2CH2) mOH, commonly abbreviated as CnEm. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Bioactive Compounds in the Chemical Defence of Marine Sponges : Structure-Activity Relationships and Pharmacological Targets

    Författare :Erik Hedner; Lars Bohlin; Per R Jonsson; Raffaele Riccio; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Pharmacognosy; 5-hydroxytryptamine; agelasine; agelasimine; antibacterial; antifouling; barettin; bromobenzisoxazolone barettin; cytotoxic; marine; secondary metabolite; sponge; Farmakognosi; Agelas; Geodia barretti;

    Sammanfattning : Marine invertebrates, in particular sponges, represent a source of a wide range of secondary metabolites, many of which have been attributed various defensive capabilities against environmental stress factors. In this thesis sponge-derived low-molecular peptide-like compounds and associated analogs are investigated for bioactivity and pharmacological targets. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Lipid bilayers versus monolayers- Sponge phases and skin lipid domains

    Författare :Katarina Ekelund; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fatty acids; Langmuir-Blodgett films; AFM; domains; stratum corneum; bilayer curvature; lipids; glycerol monooleate; phase behaviour; sponge phase; L3 phase; Livsmedelsteknik; cholesterol; Food and drink technology;

    Sammanfattning : The L3, or sponge, phase is a thermodynamically stable isotropic liquid consisting of a surfactant membrane in aqueous solution. A solvent induced L3 phase is shown in systems of solvent, monoolein and water. LÄS MER
