1. Numerical Simulations of Plasmonic Nanostructures
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the study of metallic nanostructures that support plasmons. Special emphasis is devoted to two specific numerical methods that allow us to predict plasmon characteristics: the discrete dipole approximation (DDA) and the Green's tensor (GT) method. LÄS MER
2. Optical properties of silver nanostructures prepared by electron beam lithography
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, electron beam lithography (EBL) has been used to fabricate substrates for studies of nanoparticle optics, in particular for the investigation of noble metal nanoparticles and their tunable optical properties. The strong interaction of metal nanoparticles with light has its origin in the resonant excitation of collective oscillations of conduction electrons, so called localized surface plasmons (LSP). 3. Chemical fabrication of ZnO nanostructures and their emission properties: Cholesterol biosensing applications utilizing ZnO and Graphene
Sammanfattning : Zinc oxide (ZnO) is an inorganic compound, owing to wide band gap and large binding energy, and holds promising potential in the fields of semiconducting as well as piezoelectric applications with excellent stability and reliability. In addition, ZnO has a plenteous number of nanoscale structures containing unique physical, chemical, electrical, sensing and optical properties. LÄS MER
4. Effects of polymeric surfactants on the crystallisation of inorganic materials
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns effects of polymeric surfactants on the crystal growth of inorganic structures. The crystal growth of calcium carbonate on steel surfaces was studied with a heat exchanger cell and with an electrochemical method. LÄS MER
5. Surface Plasmon Photonics: From Optical Properties of Nanoparticles to Single Molecule Surface-enhanced Raman Scattering
Sammanfattning : With the rapid development of nanoscience and nanotechnology, surface plasmon photonics using metal nanoparticles and nanostructures gain increasing interest, not only for fundamental scientific studies, but also for electronic, optical, and sensor applications. In the nanoscale, the physical and chemical properties of metallic particles, especially their optical properties, strongly depend on size and shape, as well as on surrounding media and structures.
