1. Deciphering sequence data : A multivariate approach
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, attention has been focused on the quantitative description of nucleic acids, proteins and peptides. The strategy was to use multivariate chemometrical methods for improving the understanding of the complex structural codes of these kinds of biological molecules. LÄS MER
2. Linear and Non-linear Deformations of Stochastic Processes
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of three papers on the following topics in functional analysis and probability theory: Riesz bases and frames, weakly stationary stochastic processes and analysis of set-valued stochastic processes. In the first paper we investigate Uniformly Bounded Linearly Stationary stochastic processes from the point of view of the theory of Riesz bases. LÄS MER
3. The Symmetric Meixner-Pollaczek polynomials
Sammanfattning : The Symmetric Meixner-Pollaczek polynomials are considered. We denote these polynomials in this thesis by pn(λ)(x) instead of the standard notation pn(λ) (x/2, π/2), where λ > 0. LÄS MER
4. Image Reconstruction and Optical Flow Estimation on Image Sequences with Differently Exposed Frames
Sammanfattning : The main objective for digital image- and video camera systems is to reproduce a real-world scene in such a way that a high visual quality is obtained. A crucial aspect in this regard is, naturally, the quality of the hardware components of the camera device. There are, however, always some undesired limitations imposed by the sensor of the camera. 5. Topics in polynomial sequences defined by linear recurrences
Sammanfattning : This licentiate consists of two papers treating polynomial sequences defined by linear recurrences. In paper I, we establish necessary and sufficient conditions for the reality of all the zeros in a polynomial sequence {P_i} generated by a three-term recurrence relation P_i(x)+ Q_1(x)P_{i-1}(x) +Q_2(x) P_{i-2}(x)=0 with the standard initial conditions P_{0}(x)=1, P_{-1}(x)=0, where Q_1(x) and Q_2(x) are arbitrary real polynomials.
