  1. 16. Contracting muscle for regeneration : myogenic dedifferentiation in limb progenitor cell formation

    Författare :Sara Lööf; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The urodele amphibians, such as newts and axolotls, are unique among vertebrates since they regenerate their limbs, tail, jaws and part of their heart and CNS as adults. After amputation of a newt limb, regeneration proceeds by the reversal of differentiation of tissues in the limb stump. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Expression and regulation of neuronal messenger molecules : focus on the NO-cGMP pathway and galanin in autonomic and sensory neurons

    Författare :Kristina Holmberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :adrenal gland; autonomic ganglia; cGMP; dorsal root ganglion; galanin; immunohistochemistry; in situ hybridization; nerve growth factor; neuropeptides; nitric oxide synthase; sodium nitroprusside; transgenic mice;

    Sammanfattning : The autonomic nervous system consists of the sympathetic, parasympathetic and enteric divisions. The sympathetic pre- and paravertebral neurons are in principle of noradrenergic phenotype. However, originally pharmacological experiments indicated that sympathetic fibers projecting to the sweat glands are cholinergic. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Observations on morphology and function of cutaneous and subcutaneous sensory mechanoreceptors : an experimental study in mammals

    Författare :Birgit Stark; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :mechanoreceptors; somatosensory organisation; blood-nerve barrier; Glucose transporter-1; nerve regeneration; TGF-ß family; neurotrophin receptors;

    Sammanfattning : Tactile sensory discrimination is dependent upon an intact system of peripheral mechanoreceptors, their nerve fibre afferents with cell bodies in the dorsal root ganglion and the dorsal column-medial lemniscal system which relays tactile information from the skin to the cortex. Injury to any part of the afferent pathways leads to compromised mechanoreceptive perception. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Role of latent EBV genes in the induction of genomic instability in Burkitt’s lymphoma

    Författare :Bettina Gruhne; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Epidemiological and molecular evidence link Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection to a variety of lymphoid and epithelial malignancies but the contribution of the virus to tumorigenesis is unclear. Genomic instability, defined by the establishment of a mutator phenotype and characterized by the occurrence of non-clonal chromosomal aberrations, excessive DNA damage and defects in DNA repair, is the hallmark of malignant transformation. 5. 20. Magnetic Nanoparticle Based Biosensors for Pathogen Detection and Cancer Diagnostics

    Författare :Bo Tian; Mattias Strömberg; Peter Svedlindh; Hakho Lee; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Magnetic biosensors; magnetic nanoparticles; homogeneous assays; volumetric sensing; Engineering Science with specialization in Solid State Physics; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot fasta tillståndets fysik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes several magnetic nanoparticle (MNP)-based biosensing strategies which take advantage of different magnetic sensors, molecular tools and nanotechnologies. Proposed biosensors can be classified into three groups, i.e., immunoassay-based, molecular amplification-based, and nanoparticle assembly-based. LÄS MER
