1. Genetic Aspects of Endocrine Tumorigenesis : A Hunt for the Endocrine Neoplasia Gene
Sammanfattning : Endocrine tumors arise from endocrine glands. Most endocrine tumors are benign but malignant variants exist. Several endocrine neoplasms display loss of parts of chromosome 11 or 18, produce hormones and responds poorly to conventional chemotherapeutics. The multiple endocrine neoplasia syndromes are mainly confined to endocrine tumors. LÄS MER
2. Profiling of Small Intestine Neuroendocrine Tumors
Sammanfattning : Small intestine neuroendocrine tumors (SI-NETs) are malignant neoplasms usually presenting with disseminated disease and symptoms of hormone overproduction. Radical surgery is curative but can only be performed for localized disease. For most patients the disease follows a progressive and fatal course. LÄS MER
3. Studies of epigenetic deregulation in parathyroid tumors and small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors
Sammanfattning : Deregulation of the epigenome is associated with the initiation and progression of various types of human cancers. Here we investigated the level of 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC), expression and function of TET1 and TET2, and DNA methylation in parathyroid tumors and small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors (SI-NETs). 4. Melatonin and its receptors in the normal human gastrointestinal tract, pancreas and in small intestinal neuroendocrine tumours
Sammanfattning : Melatonin, “the hormone of darkness” is well known to regulate sleep and circadian rhythm. However, melatonin is also present in numerous peripheral tissues and the number of actions assigned to this neurohormone is growing steadily. LÄS MER
5. Molecular aspects of tumor development and treatment for small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors
Sammanfattning : Small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors (SI-NETs) may cause symptoms due to excess secretion of hormones and peptides. The molecular mechanisms behind development of SINETs are not well understood. Copy number alterations, especially loss of chromosome 18q, have been reported and recently p27 mutations were implicated in SI-NET tumorigenesis. LÄS MER
