This thesis deals with children and young people who grew up in the Swedish countryside during 1930s, 1940s and 1950s and who embarked on an educational journey. Through the formation and development of industrial societies between 1890 and 1970, rural life and agriculture in Europe were made subject to a high degree of social, economic and political planning. This phenomenon of rural governance in the age of high modernity is explored in this thesis, which analyzes the governance of the Swedish countryside through studies of rural domestic education. Background InVietnam, the proportion of people aged 60 and above has increased rapidly in recent decades. The majority live in rural areas where socioeconomic status is more disadvantaged than in urban areas.Vietnam’s economic status is improving but disparities in income and living conditions are widening between groups and regions. The problem of illiteracy has been the object of many studies during recent decades. In Ethiopia, a country which reports one of the lowest literacy rates in Africa, the Yemissrach Dimts Literacy Campaign (YDLC) was started in 1962.
