1. Improving the functionality of synchronous machines using power electronics
Sammanfattning : With the advent of modern power electronics there is reason to explore what can be achieved when it is applied to a mature technology like synchronous machines. In this text several concepts will be presented on how it is possible to control forces and how to get better performance out of synchronous machines by using power electronics. LÄS MER
2. Analysis and Control Aspects of Brushless Induction Machines with Rotating Power Electronic Converters
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the steady-state, dynamic and control aspects of new type of brushless configuration of a doubly-fed induction machine in which the slip rings and carbon brushes are replaced by rotating power electronics and a rotating exciter. The aim is to study the stability of this novel configuration of the generator under mechanical and grid disturbances for wind power applications. LÄS MER
3. Voltage Transients in the Field Winding of Salient Pole Wound Synchronous Machines : Implications from fast switching power electronics
Sammanfattning : Wound Field Synchronous Generators provide more than 95% of the electricity need worldwide. Their primacy in electricity production is due to ease of voltage regulation, performed by simply adjusting the direct current intensity in their rotor winding. LÄS MER
4. Energy Harvesting for Smart-Internet-Connected Bearings
Sammanfattning : With the number of interconnected devices, many of which being wireless, exceeding the human population, there is a need to power resource-constrained devices through means other than disposable batteries. Harvesting ambient energy from the vicinity of the device is one solution. LÄS MER
5. Interferometric measurements and analysis with applications in elastohydrodynamic experiments
Sammanfattning : Section A in this thesis is dedicated to measurements of lubricant films separating rotating surfaces in elastohydrodynamic experiments. Two specially designed interferometry-based methods are presented. A method to compensate for measurement errors due to the pressure dependence of the refractive index of the lubricant is proposed.
