16. Functional characteristics of periodontitis and peri-implantitis lesions in humans
Sammanfattning : In the current series of studies functional characteristics of periodontitis and peri-implantitis lesions in humans were investigated. Cell markers for antimicrobial activity were used to evaluate differences between periodontitis and peri-implantitis lesions (Study I), while epigenetic and oxidative stress markers were used to compare periodontitis lesions in smokers and non-smokers (Study II). 17. Role of MYCN in retinoblastoma : From carcinogenesis to tumor progression
Sammanfattning : Retinoblastoma, a pediatric malignancy of the retina, is primarily driven by the bi-allelic inactivation of the RB1gene. However, a subset of cases are characterized by proficient RB1 functions but with MYCN copy number mutations, suggesting an alternative oncogenic mechanism in the absence of RB1 mutations. LÄS MER
18. Genes and proteins controlled by cGMP-PKG during retinal degeneration
Sammanfattning : prevalence was reported as 1:3000-4000 worldwide, making it the main reason for blindness in the working population in industrial countries. The mutations of over 70 genes have been related to this genetic disorder, and there is generally no effective treatment, except for gene therapy for the RPE65 mutations. LÄS MER
19. Genetic Cartography at Massively Parallel Scale
Sammanfattning : Massively parallel sequencing (MPS) is revolutionizing genomics. In this work we use, refine, and develop new tools for the discipline.MPS has led to the discovery of multiple novel subtypes in Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). In Study I we screen for fusion genes in 134 pediatric ALL patients, including patients without an assigned subtype. LÄS MER
20. Systems biology techniques show high prevalence of post-translational regulation in the cyanobacterium Synechocystis PCC 6803
Sammanfattning : Earth's climate has been upset by carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from human activities and the use of fossil resources. To prevent catastrophic events on the environment and on civilizations, we urgently need to develop alternative solutions that utilize renewable resources. LÄS MER
