  1. 1. The interactome of the Epstein-Barr virus nuclear antigen 5 suggests novel roles in RNA and protein metabolism

    Författare :Josefine Ekholm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Epstein-Barr virus; EBNA5; chaperone; proteasome; nucleolus;

    Sammanfattning : Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a human herpes virus that infects B and epithelial cells of the oropharynx. EBV is transmitted by saliva and establishes a lifelong latency in over 90% of the world's population. During latency, the virus exists predominantly as multicopy episomes in the nuclei of memory B cells. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Study on the Function of Translation Initiation Factor IF1

    Författare :Victor Croitoru; Leif A. Isaksson; Kim Kusk Mortensen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :translation; initiation factor IF1; mutagenesis; A-site; RNA chaperone; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : Initiation is the first step in protein biosynthesis representing a fundamental event in cell life which determines fidelity, efficiency and regulation of gene expression. In addition to the ribosome and mRNA, three protein factors IF1, IF2 and IF3 are involved in the initiation of translation in prokaryotes. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Functional characterization of the small antisense RNA MicA in Escherichia coli

    Författare :Klas Ifeanyi Udekwu; Gerhart Wagner; Tony Romeo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; small RNA; antisense; outer membrane; Hfq-dependence; RNase III; LuxS; Quorum sensing; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : The Escherichia coli small RNA (sRNA) MicA was identified recently in a genomewide search for sRNAs. It is encoded between the genes gshA and luxS in E. coli and its close relatives. The function of sRNAs in bacteria is generally believed to be in maintenance of homeostasis via stress-induced modulation of gene expression. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Small RNAs, Big Consequences : Post-transcriptional Regulation and Adaptive Immunity in Bacteria

    Författare :Mirthe Hoekzema; Gerhart E. H. Wagner; Magnus Lundgren; Kai Papenfort; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; small RNA; sRNA; non-coding RNA; Hfq; gene regulation; post-transcriptional regulation; biofilm; OmrA; OmrB; toxin-antitoxin; TisB; IstR-1; Persisters; CRISPR-Cas; CRISPR-Cas adaptation reporter; Escherichia coli; Biologi med inriktning mot mikrobiologi; Biology with specialization in Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : It is nowadays widely accepted that non-coding RNAs play important roles in post-transcriptional regulation of genes in all kingdoms of life. In bacteria, the largest group of RNA regulators are the small RNAs (sRNAs). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Advancing antiviral strategies against emerging RNA viruses by phenotypic drug discovery

    Författare :Marianna Tampere; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Pathogenic RNA viruses can emerge from unexpected sources at unexpected times and cause severe disease in humans, as exemplified by the ongoing coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and Ebola virus (EBOV), Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV) and Zika virus (ZIKV) outbreaks from the past decade. Despite the increasing impact of emerging viruses to health and economy worldwide, our preparedness to stand against these diseases is hampered by the lack of approved and effective antiviral therapies.
