  1. 1. Pulmonary hypertension. Clinical and pathophysiological studies

    Författare :Nedim Selimovic; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Pulmonary hypertension; Echocardiography; Right heart catheterisation; Pulmonary vascular resistance; Pulmonary function tests; Lung transplantation; Mortality on the waiting list; Vascular remodelling; Growth substances; Inflammation; Endothelin;

    Sammanfattning : Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a common abnormality, most often associated with various cardiopulmonary diseases. Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a devastating pulmonary vascular disease characterised by the proliferation of endothelial, smooth-muscle cells and fibroblasts. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Function and morbidity of the esophagus and respiratory system in the growing child with esophageal atresia

    Författare :Felipe Donoso; Helene Engstrand Lilja; Andrei Malinovschi; Christer Janson; Kate Abrahamsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :esophageal atresia; lung function; pulmonary function; pH-metry; PPI; anastomotic stricture; Barnkirurgi; Pediatric Surgery;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Esophageal atresia (EA) is a congenital malformation that consists of various degrees of discontinuity of the esophagus and affects about 1:3000 live births. EA is usually corrected at birth with survival rates over 90%, which has shifted the focus towards improvement of associated morbidity and health-related quality of life. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Acute pulmonary embolism - aspects of respiratory symptoms and physical activity

    Författare :Jenny S Danielsbacka; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pulmonary embolism; Symptoms and signs; respiratory; Activity leisure; Respiratory function tests; Walk test; Qualitative research;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction. Pulmonary embolism (PE) is the third most common cardiovascular disease, after myocardial infarction and stroke. Post-PE syndrome, which is characterized by long-term consequences of PE with persistent dyspnea and decreased functional capacity, has been acknowledged as a risk in the aftermath. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Initiation of ventilation, surfactant treatment, and lung function after preterm birth

    Författare :Lars Björklund; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Respiration; Artificial; Pediatrics; Pediatri; Respiratory Function Tests; Pulmonary Surfactants; Newborn; Respiratory Distress Syndrome; Infant; Premature; Animals;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis investigates lung function and the effects of rescue surfactant treatment in mechanically ventilated preterm human infants with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), and the effects of ventilation at birth on the response to surfactant supplementation in preterm lambs. To assess lung function, the author recorded static pressure-volume (P-V) curves during passive deflation from total lung capacity (TLC) to ambient pressure and measured end-expiratory lung volume (FRC) during mechanical ventilation by tracer gas washout. 5. 5. Pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum epidemiology and outcome in children born in Sweden 1980-1999

    Författare :Britt-Marie Ekman-Joelsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum; ventriculo coronary arterial communications; biventricular repair; univentricular palliation; myocardial perfusion; myocardial function; cardiopulmonary exercise; lung function; quality of life; mortality; outcome;

    Sammanfattning : Aims: To describe children born with pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum (PA-IVS) in Sweden between 1980 and 1999, the incidence and outcome of PA-IVS, to examine cardio-pulmonary outcomes in survivors and to evaluate their quality of life. Material and methods: Eighty-four subjects were identified. LÄS MER
