  1. 11. Mechanistic studies on the role of extracellular vesicles in the tumor microenvironment

    Författare :Helena Christianson; Tumörmikromiljö; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; microvesicle; exosome; Key words Extracellular vesicle; glioblastoma; hypoxia; angiogenesis; acidosis; proteoglycan; endocytosis; carbonic anhydrase IX; biomarker.;

    Sammanfattning : The transition from normal into malignant cells with acquired uncontrolled growth is a process where cancer cells viciously develop adaptive strategies to overcome microenvironmental and metabolic stress. Hypoxia, or deficient oxygen supply, is a common feature of the expanding tumor which alters cell metabolism and consecutively causes lowered intracellular pH. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Hormones and breast cancer : aspects on receptor expression and metabolism

    Författare :Lars Löfgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Breast cancer; fine needle aspiration biopsy; tamoxifen; megestrol acetate; SHBG; sex steroid hormone receptors; Syndecan-1;

    Sammanfattning : Breast cancer is the most common malignancy among women in the western world. Sex steroid hormones are implied as risk factors but endocrine regimens are also used in the therapy of breast cancer. Current knowledge about the endocrine and metabolic effects of different treatments is incomplete. LÄS MER

  3. 13. The role of autophagy in cartilage physiology and metabolism : implications for growth and ageing

    Författare :Karuna Kumari Vuppalapati; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cartilage is the main constituent of the embryonic skeleton. At the ends of long bones cartilage forms a growth plate consisting of chondrocytes in distinct stages of differentiation and arranged into three zones. These chondrocytes mediate linear bone growth through synchronized proliferation, differentiation, and production of matrix. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Influences of in vivo and in vitro loading on the proteoglycan synthesis of articular cartilage chondrocytes

    Författare :Mikko Lammi; Markku Tammi; Jukka Finne; Tim Hardingham; Finland Kuopio University of Kuopio Department of Anatomy; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Articular cartilage; proteoglycans; loading; stress; hydrostatic pressure; biokemi; Biochemistry; cell research; cellforskning; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; ortopedi; Orthopaedics;

    Sammanfattning : In this study, the biosynthesis of proteoglycans (PGs) was examined in articular cartilage of canine hip joint after long-distance running experiment and in bovine chondrocyte cultures during in vitro loading with hydrostatic pressure. In addition, new assays were developed for more sensitive quantitation of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) and PGs. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Biglycan as a modulator of fibrous connective tissue

    Författare :Ellen Tufvesson; allergologi och palliativ medicin Lungmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; biglycan decorin fibroblast interleukin-1beta migration proteoglycan structure tumour necrosis factor-alpha; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Medicin människa och djur ;

    Sammanfattning : Fibrous connective tissue contains fibroblasts distributed in a complex network of extracellular matrix molecules, such as proteoglycans. The small proteoglycans biglycan and decorin are composed of a protein core substituted with two and one glycosaminoglycan (GAG) chain, respectively. LÄS MER
