  1. 1. Development and application of strategies for the analysis of modification patterns in chondroitin and dermatan sulphate

    Författare :Fang Cheng; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; reumatologi; muskelsystem; Skelett; Glycosaminoglycan; Proteoglycan; Chondroitin sulphate; dermatan sulphate; Sequencing analysis; Modification pattern.; Skeleton; rheumatology locomotion; muscle system; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism;

    Sammanfattning : Chondroitin (CS) and dermatan sulphate (DS) are socalled glycosaminoglycans (GAG) that are covalently attached to various type of proteins forming a subgroup within the diverse proteoglycan (PG) family. The PGs studied in this thesis are mostly extracellularly located and include aggrecan, biglycan and decorin. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Biosynthesis of decorin and glypican glycosaminoglycan chains

    Författare :Mats Jönsson; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Metabolism; Biochemistry; phosphorylation; biosynthesis; glycosaminoglycan; decorin; glypican; Biokemi; metabolism;

    Sammanfattning : Proteoglycans consist of core proteins substituted with glycosaminoglycan chains. The galactosaminoglycans (GlcUA/IdoUA-GalNAc) and the glucosaminoglycans (GlcUA/IdoUA-GlcNAc) are both initiated on the same tetrasaccharide linkage region GlcUA-Gal-Gal-Xyl-protein. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The collagen fibrillar network: Sequential degradation of its constituents by tissue metalloproteinases

    Författare :Terrence Heathfield; Enheten för led- och mjukvävnadsforskning; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; metabolism; Metabolism; Biochemistry; collagen; fibromodulin; cartilage; osteoarthritis; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The cartilage matrix is made up of a fibrillar meshwork comprising type II collagen and other associated proteins. One main function of this network is to retain the large aggregating proteoglycan, aggrecan, a vital component in the regulation of fluid flux in cartilage. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Metabolism of articular cartilage proteoglycans in vitro : effects of synovial membrane products and mechanical pressure

    Författare :Agneta Klämfeldt; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Articular cartilage; Proteoglycan metabolism; Synovial membrane products; Mechanical stress; Indom ethacin; Glucocorticoids; Prostaglandins; Osteoarthritis; Rheumatoid arthritis;

    Sammanfattning : The effect of synovial membrane products and mechanical pressure upon the metabolism of articular cartilage proteoglycans has been studied in vitro. The degradation of cartilage proteoglycans was studied in an organ culture system and measured as the release of [35S ] sulphate from prelabelled cartilage. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Glucosamine (GlcN) and glucosamine sulfate (GS) have been used to treat the patients with osteoarthritis(OA) as a disease-modifying agent. Previousin vitro studies have focused on the effects of GlcN or GSon cartilage metabolism, whereas in vivo studies have investigated their potential for the treatment of OA. LÄS MER
