  1. 1. Complex disease genetics : Utilising targeted sequencing and homogeneous ancestry

    Författare :Argyri Mathioudaki; Kerstin Lindblad-Toh; Panagiotis Deloukas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ankylosing spondylitis; breast cancer; targeted sequencing; Sweden; genetics; population stratification.; Molekylär genetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : The complex disease investigations presented in this thesis aimed to provide new information regarding underlying genetics by using targeted sequencing and ethnically homogeneous cohorts. This work moved past current methodologies and addressed data stratification issues, that might have been hindering new findings. 2. 2. Molecular population genetics of inducible defense genes in Populus tremula

    Författare :Carolina Bernhardsson; Stefan Jansson; Santiago González-Martinez; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Populus; herbivore defense; adaptation; population genetics; population structure; association mapping; complex traits; evolutionär genetik; evolutionary genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Plant-herbivore interactions are among the most common of ecological interactions. It is therefore not surprising that plants have evolved multiple mechanisms to defend themselves, using both constitutive chemical and physical barriers and by induced responses which are only expressed after herbivory has occurred. 3. 3. Population Genetics of Human Genomic Elements

    Författare :Thijessen Naidoo; Mattias Jakobsson; Guillaume Achaz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; population genetics; human genome; functional elements; natural selection; pseudogenes; loss-of-function; gene regulation; Y chromosome; Biology with Specialisation in Human Evolution and Genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot människans evolution och genetik;

    Sammanfattning : The genomes of living organisms are composed of a multitude of functional units, which interact with each other and their environment in a highly regulated fashion, to facilitate the expression of an enduring (and evolving) phenotype. Several approaches have emerged in the effort to identify these functional units and explore their activities. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Complex Trait Genetics : Beyond Additivity

    Författare :Simon Forsberg; Örjan Carlborg; Julien Ayroles; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; genetic interactions; epistasis; additivity; GWAS; vGWAS; Genetic mapping; yeast; Arabidopsis Thaliana; dog; Genetik; Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : The link between the genotype and the phenotype of an organism is immensely complex. Despite this it can, to a great extent, be captured using models that assume that gene variants combine their effects in an additive manner. This thesis explores aspects of genetics that cannot be fully captured using such additive models. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Conservation Genetics of Scandinavian Wolverines

    Författare :Eva Hedmark; Hans Ellegren; Lisette Waits; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular genetics; carnivores; conservation; genetic monitoring; molecular sexing; non-invasive genetic techniques; parentage analysis; tanning; Genetik; Gulo gulo; Genetics; Genetik;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, genetic methods for individual identification and sex determination of wolverines from non-invasive samples were developed and applied in genetic monitoring of Scandinavian wolverine populations. Paternity and mating system of wolverines were studied by combining genetic analysis with telemetry data. LÄS MER
