16. Studies on vasoactivity of fibrin(ogen) derived peptides
Sammanfattning : Fibrin accumulation is a common fmding in many pathological conditions, such as in inflammatory processes, e.g. in the lungs in pneumonia or pulmonary insufficiency after sepsis. During lysis of the fibrin by plasmin or leukocyte elastase, peptides are released that may contribute to the pathophysiological changes. LÄS MER
17. Evaluation of UHT milk processed by direct steam injection and steam infusion technology
Sammanfattning : UHT direct steam injection and steam infusion are widely used; however there is no comparison of their impact on milk components. This study evaluates the structural changes at different steps during the UHT processing of whole milk in a full-scale UHT plant by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and particle size measurements, and follows the enzymatic activity. 18. Plasminogen : a pleiotropic inflammatory regulator in radiation-induced wound formation and wound repair
Sammanfattning : The plasminogen activator (PA) system plays important roles in many physiological and pathological processes, including inflammation and wound healing. Plasmin, the central component of the PA system, is a broad-spectrum serine protease that is derived from its inactive precursor form, plasminogen. LÄS MER
19. Variation in raw milk quality : impact on milk coagulation and cheese ripening
Sammanfattning : This thesis examined some of the causes behind recent increasing variation in ripening time of a traditional, Swedish long-ripening hard cheese. Variations in the composition and properties of farm and dairy silo milk intended for production of the long-ripening cheese were recorded during one year, and the resulting cheese was characterised. 20. On the induction of inflammatory reactions by Streptococcus pyogenes
Sammanfattning : Streptococcus pyogenes is an important human pathogen that causes significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. In order to successfully infect the human host, S. pyogenes is equipped with tools that modulate the human immune defence. LÄS MER
