  1. 1. Antiadhesive agents targeting uropathogenic Escherichia coli : Multivariate studies of protein-protein and protein-carbohydrate interactions

    Författare :Andreas Larsson; Jan Kihlberg; Fredrik Almqvist; Mats Larhed; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organic chemistry; Antibacterial; pili; antiadhesive agents; structure based design; statistical molecular design; 2-pyridone; amino acid derivative; galabiose; enaminone; SPR; ELISA; QSAR; Organisk kemi; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes studies directed towards development of novel antiadhesive agents, with particular emphasis on compounds that prevent attachment of bacteria to a host-cell. Three different proteins involved in the assembly or function of adhesive pili in uropathogenic Escherichia coli have been targeted either by rational structure based design or statistical molecular methods. Sammanfattning : With a growing number of multi-resistant bacteria against conventional antibiotics, there is an urgent need to identify new antimicrobial therapeutics. One example that has gained considerable interest is antimicrobial peptides (AMPs). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Water and protein solutions studied by field-dependent magnetic relaxation

    Författare :Kristofer Modig; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; relaxation; protein solvation; protein dynamics; protein denaturation; oxytocin; magnetic relaxation dispersion; nuclear magnetic resonance; lipid-binding protein; hydration; beta-lactoglobulin; BPTI; shielding anisotropy; water; Molecular biophysics; Molekylär biofysik;

    Sammanfattning : In the work presented, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) relaxation is used to study wide range of systems. The thesis concerns solvent interactions studied with relaxation techniques that involve measurements at many fields, which allows the separation of individual relaxation mechanisms. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Interactions Between Small Heat Shock Proteins and Substrate Proteins Mass Spectrometric Detection of Crosslinked Peptides to Map Protein-Protein Interactions

    Författare :Emma Åhrman; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Protein-protein interactions; Small heat shock proteins; Mass spectrometric peptide mapping; Proteins; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi;

    Sammanfattning : The small heat shock proteins (sHsps) are a widespread class of molecular chaperones existing in all organisms. During heat stress the sHsps protect other proteins from unfolding and aggregation. In plants the sHsps play an especially prominent part of the stress response. LÄS MER
