  1. 1. Spinal cord injuries in Sweden : studies on clinical follow-ups

    Författare :Peter Flank; Fahlström Martin; Anna Ramnemark; Richard Levi; Kerstin Wahman; Eva Denison; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Tetraplegia; paraplegia; cardiovascular disease; prevention; anthropometry; physical activity; rehabiliteringsmedicin; Rehabilitation Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : A spinal cord injury is a serious medical condition, often caused by a physical trauma. An injury to the spinal cord affects the neurotransmission between the brain and spinal cord segments below the level of injury. The SCI causes a loss of motor function, sensory function and autonomic regulation of the body, temporary or permanent. LÄS MER

  2. 2. CARDIOTHORACIC TRAUMA: A Scandinavian Perspective

    Författare :Moheb A. Rashid; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Cardiothoracic trauma; Trauma; Extrapleural hematoma; Sternal fractures; Heart and lung contusions; Cardiac; pulmonary; and thoracic aortic injuries; Urgent or emergency room department thoracotomy; Sternotomy; Paraplegia; Outcome.;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Trauma in general is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, and causes more loss of productive years than ischemic heart disease and malignancy together. Cardiothoracic trauma occurs in 60% of multitrauma patients and is 2-3 times more common than intra-abdominal visceral injuries. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Studies on hereditary spastic paraplegia proteins

    Författare :Cynthia Soderblom; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The hereditary spastic paraplegias (HSPs) are a clinically and genetically diverse group of inherited neurological disorders that primarily cause progressive spasticity and weakness in the lower limbs due to a length-dependent, retrograde degradation of the corticospinal motor neurons. Purely spastic paraplegia is also known as uncomplicated HSP, but complicated forms of HSP exist as well, with symptoms such as mental retardation, dementia, seizures, and optic, cortical, and cerebellar atrophy. 4. 4. Trinucleotide repeats and neuropsychiatric phenotypes

    Författare :Qiu-Ping Yuan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Trinucleotide; repeat expansion; psychiatric disorder; gene; spastic paraplegia;

    Sammanfattning : Genetic studies of affective disorders have yielded several chromosomal regions suggestive for linkage. Linkage analysis was performed in five families with unipolar affective disorder, collected from northern Sweden. Four candidate regions on chromosomes 16, 18, 21 and 4p were excluded. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Cardiovascular disease prevention after spinal cord injury : a new challenge

    Författare :Kerstin Wahman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Spinal cord injury; traumatic paraplegia; cardiovascular decease; lifestyle; cardiovascular decease prevention;

    Sammanfattning : Spinal cord injury (SCI) typically leads to permanent infralesional motor and sensory functional losses, pathophysiological aberrations in most organ systems and a lasting vulnerability for a variety of complicating conditions. Improvements in acute and rehabilitative management during the last decades have increased long term survival after SCI. LÄS MER
