1. Conservation Genetics of the Eurasian Otter in Sweden
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, molecular genetic methods were used to study a threatened species, the Eurasian otter. Estimates of population size and population dynamics parameters were obtained, the genetic effects of a restocking program was evaluated, and a population viability analysis was conducted to assess which demographic parameters are most important for the future viability of an otter population. 2. Capillary driven devices for patient-centric diagnostics
Sammanfattning : Lateral flow assays is an example of a successful microfluidic platform relying on passive fluid transport, making them suitable for patient-centric and point-of-care applications. Flow control and valving in capillary driven devices typically rely on design-imprinted functions and operations which can be a limiting factor. LÄS MER
3. High Clay Content Cellulose Nanocomposites for Mechanical Performance and Fire Retardancy
Sammanfattning : Materials based on wood can offer sustainable alternatives to fossil-based plastics and composites, and show interesting mechanical properties. However, the issue of their flammability is generally unresolved. In this thesis, eco-friendly, fire retardant clay-cellulose nanofibril materials are investigated. LÄS MER
4. Cryogels Based on Crosslinked Cells as Green Biocatalysts for Biotechnology
Sammanfattning : Abstract Due to the finite nature of fossil resources and their environmental impact, such as greenhouse gases and climate change, the bio-based production of chemicals, materials and fuels is the subject of extensive research in industrial biotechnology. Biotransformation and fermentation are considered to be mild, “green” processes that make use of effective and reliable biocatalysts to provide bio-based chemicals. LÄS MER
5. Applications of Chromophores and Multiphoton Techniques to Study Structure and Interactions of Bio-macromolecules in Assembled State
Sammanfattning : The research presented in this thesis is concerned with the linear and nonlinear optical properties of biopolymers and the chromophores that bind to them. This thesis combines analyses of the interactions of biomolecules with technological improvements of already existing systems for bionanotechnology-related research. LÄS MER
