1. Adipocyte phosphatases and the antilipolytic action of insulin
Sammanfattning : Adipose tissue is the main site of energy storage of the body and an important endocrine organ. Knowledge of the regulation of fat metabolism and the endocrine factors secreted by the adipocyte is crucial for the understanding of diseases such as obesity and diabetes. Insulin is the main antilipolytic hormone. LÄS MER
2. Insulin Signalling and Regulation of Protein Kinase B in Adipocytes
Sammanfattning : Insulin resistance is a hallmark of type 2 diabetes, an increasingly common disorder. The cause of insulin resistance is supposedly failures in the processes used by insulin to signal to the interior of its target cells. These failing steps are still unknown, most probably because of incomplete knowledge of how the insulin signals are transmitted. LÄS MER
3. Protein kinases in hormonal regulation of adipocyte metabolism
Sammanfattning : Abstract Along with liver and muscle tissue, adipose tissue helps maintain normal levels of glucose and lipids in the blood and has a very important role when it comes to storing lipids that can provide whole-body energy. After a meal is ingested, adipocytes take up glucose from the circulation and use it as a substrate for synthesis of new fatty acids (FAs) in a process known as de novo fatty acid synthesis, as well as for synthesis of glycerol. 4. Studies on Cell Injury Induced by Hypoxia-Reoxygenation and Oxidized Low Density Lipoprotein : With Special Reference to the Protectiove Effect of Mixed Tocopherols, Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Transforming Growth Factor-beta1
Sammanfattning : Hypoxia-reoxygenation (H-R) injury is an important clinical phenomenon in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Endothelial injury is a critical step in the initiation and progression of atherosclerosis. Therefore, endothelial and cardiomyocyte protection has been considered an effective step in prevention and treatment of CAD. LÄS MER
5. The mechanism of integrin inactivation and cell signalling induced by c-erbB2, an oncogenic growth factor receptor
Sammanfattning : Overexpression of the oncogenic growth factor receptor, c-erbB2, is linked with poor prognosis in breast carcinomas and is used as a target for therapeutic strategies. To elucidate the mechanism underlying the tumorigenic action of an elevated c-erbB2 level, leading to homodimerization and activation, we have used an inducible system where a hybrid receptor consisting of the cytoplasmic and transmembrane domains of c-erbB2 fused to the extracellular domain of the trkA NGF receptor has been stably transfected into an immortalized mammary epithelial cell line.
