16. Design of solid dosage forms for mucosal vaccination - Investigations on the influence of excipients on product performance
Sammanfattning : Most vaccines today are liquid formulations for parental administration. However, there are several drawbacks connected to these vaccines. Since injectable vaccines only induce systemic antibody responses, they are not effective against the various pathogens that affect mucosal surfaces with poor permeability for serum-derived antibodies, e.g. LÄS MER
17. IgG3 Complements IgM in the Complement-Mediated Regulation of Immune Responses
Sammanfattning : An intact complement system is essential for the initiation of a normal antibody response. Antibodies can regulate their own production against the antigens that they are specific for. Both IgG3 and IgM are able to enhance the antibody response via complement. LÄS MER
18. Genital tract CD4+ T cells for vaccination and protection against Chlamydia trachomatis
Sammanfattning : Vaccination strategies for protection against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are lacking due to an incomplete understanding of genital tract T cell responses. This thesis dissects the generation of T helper subsets, including the recently discovered Th17 subset, during genital tract infection with a common sexually transmitted pathogen, Chlamydia trachomatis, and addresses vaccine requirements for the generation of genital tract CD4+ T cell immunity. 19. Regulation of innate and adaptive immune responses by Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
Sammanfattning : Bacteria are classified as Gram-positive or Gram-negative, depending on their cell wall structure. The role of the bacterial cell wall in immune regulation is the focus of the current work. Most Gram-positive bacteria stimulate monocytes to produce large amounts of IL-12. LÄS MER
20. Dental acrylates and methacrylates - Interactions with the immune system
Sammanfattning : Professionals working in dentistry have reported adverse effects, such as allergic contact dermatitis due to exposure to different methacrylates/acrylates. Leakage of such monomers from dental fillings due to incomplete curing is also common. LÄS MER
