1. Antiadhesive agents targeting uropathogenic Escherichia coli : Multivariate studies of protein-protein and protein-carbohydrate interactions
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes studies directed towards development of novel antiadhesive agents, with particular emphasis on compounds that prevent attachment of bacteria to a host-cell. Three different proteins involved in the assembly or function of adhesive pili in uropathogenic Escherichia coli have been targeted either by rational structure based design or statistical molecular methods. 2. Unravelling protein stability and aggregation
Sammanfattning : Proteins are complex macromolecules that are fundamental to all living species. The stability of proteins are governed by non-covalent forces within the protein and between the protein and its surrounding environment. LÄS MER
3. Gene fusion in protein engineering : design of novel peptides and bifunctional enzymes
Sammanfattning : The gene fusion technique is widely used in protein engineering and in this thesis it constitutes the basis of both the construction of artificial bifunctional enzymes and the display of two novel peptides. Artificial bifunctional enzymes have been used as model systems in the studies of native multifunctional enzymes and proximity effects within these complexes. LÄS MER
4. Prediction, Design and Determination of Protein Structures
Sammanfattning : The three-dimensional structure of protein is encoded in its amino acid sequence. Modern structure prediction algorithms make it possible to predict the structure of small proteins using sequence information alone. LÄS MER
5. The Design and Structure Prediction of Protein Oligomers
Sammanfattning : The minimum free energy state of a protein (the native state) is encoded by its amino-acid sequence. Due to the many torsional degrees of freedom (DOF) available to a polypeptide chain, a vast number of conformations is possible. LÄS MER
