1. Observational Uncertainties in Water-Resources Modelling in Central America : Methods for Uncertainty Estimation and Model Evaluation
Sammanfattning : Knowledge about spatial and temporal variability of hydrological processes is central for sustainable water-resources management, and such knowledge is created from observational data. Hydrologic models are necessary for prediction for time periods and areas lacking data, but are affected by observational uncertainties. LÄS MER
2. Aerosol-cloud interaction from an observational and modeling perspective
Sammanfattning : Clouds may respond strongly to changes in the atmospheric aerosol population, and the response of clouds to an increased global aerosol burden could to some extent mask the warming caused by enhanced greenhouse gas concentrations. However, estimates of the impact of aerosols on cloud properties are associated with large uncertainties, both because of difficulties representing the aerosol-cloud interaction within models, and because of problems of unequivocally isolating the effect of aerosols on cloud properties in observational data. 3. Reliability-based design of rock tunnel support
Sammanfattning : Since 2009, design of rock tunnels can be performed in accordance with the Eurocodes, which allows that different design methodologies are applied, such as design by calculation or design using the observational method. To account for uncertainties in design, the Eurocode states that design by calculation should primarily be performed using the partial factor method or reliability-based methods. LÄS MER
4. Disinformative and Uncertain Data in Global Hydrology : Challenges for Modelling and Regionalisation
Sammanfattning : Water is essential for human well-being and healthy ecosystems, but population growth and changes in climate and land-use are putting increased stress on water resources in many regions. To ensure water security, knowledge about the spatiotemporal distribution of these resources is of great importance. LÄS MER
5. Robust Water Balance Modeling with Uncertain Discharge and Precipitation Data : Computational Geometry as a New Tool
Sammanfattning : Models are important tools for understanding the hydrological processes that govern water transport in the landscape and for prediction at times and places where no observations are available. The degree of trust placed on models, however, should not exceed the quality of the data they are fed with. LÄS MER
