  1. 11. Modeling lichen performance in relation to climate : scaling from thalli to landscapes

    Författare :Anna V Jonsson Čabrajić; Kristin Palmqvist; Jon Moen; Per-Anders Esseen; Mikaell Ottosson-Löfvenius; Göran Ågren; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lichen; growth; model; micro-climate; hydration; activation; photosynthesis; respiration; Terrestrial ecology; Terrestisk ekologi; ekologisk botanik; Ecological Botany;

    Sammanfattning : Lichens can colonize nearly all terrestrial habitats on earth and are functionally important in many ecosystems. Being poikilohydric, their active growth periods are restricted to periods when the thallus is hydrated from atmospheric water sources, such as rain, fog and high relative humidity. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Spatial patterns in the interaction between Salix triandra and associated parasites

    Författare :Lena Niemi; Anders Wennström; Lars Ericson; Keith Clay; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Gonioctena linnaeana; host-parasite interactions; leaf beetle; local adaptation; Melampsora amygdalinae; phenolics; pathogens; plant host; secondary chemistry; Terrestrial ecology; Terrestisk ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on mechanisms and processes underlying spatial patterns of resistance and virulence and on local adaptations in plant–parasite interactions. The model system used comprises the plant host Salix triandra, the pathogenic rust fungus Melampsora amygdalinae, the leaf beetle Gonioctena linnaeana, and the galler Pontania triandrae. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Phylogenetic relationships and species richness of coprophilous ascomycetes

    Författare :Åsa Nyberg Kruys; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ß-tubulin; Bayesian analysis; dung; forage; fungi; moose; parsimony; phylogeny; Pleosporales; spore dispersal; Sporormiaceae; Terrestrial ecology; Terrestisk ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Coprophilous ascomycetes are a diverse group of saprobes, of which many belong to three families, Delitschiaceae, Phaeotrichaceae and Sporormiaceae, within the large order Pleosporales. The natural relationships and circumscription of these families are unclear, especially within the family Sporormiaceae, where the generic delimitation have been questioned. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Colonization Patterns of Wood-inhabiting Fungi in Boreal Forest

    Författare :Jörgen Olsson; Lars Ericson; Jørund Rolstad; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Wood-inhabiting fungi; colonization; dispersal; restoration fire; saproxylic beetles; conservation; forest management; boreal forest; Terrestrial ecology; Terrestisk ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Forest management practices have changed the over-all structure of the Fennoscandian forest landscape resulting in a lack of suitable substrates for many wood-inhabiting species. The objectives of this thesis was to describe the colonization patterns of wood-inhabiting fungi, including the potential role of beetles as dispersal vectors, on different types of dead wood substrate and assess the importance of active measures in the forest landscape in order to restore biodiversity i. 5. 15. Interactions between natural enemies and the dioecious herb Silene dioica

    Författare :Viktoria Pettersson; Barbara E. Giles; Lars Ericson; Pia Mutikainen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Silene dioica; Delia criniventris; Caryocolum viscariella; Microbotryum violaceum; plant-herbivore interactions; plant -pathogen interactions; sex bias; sex rato; successional gradients; fitness effects; Skeppsvik Archipelago; Terrestrial ecology; Terrestisk ekologi; ekologisk botanik; Ecological Botany;

    Sammanfattning : About 6% of all angiosperms are dioecious. This separation of sexual function to male and female individuals, and the fundamentally different patterns of reproductive resource allocation that follows that separation, are thought to have important ecological and evolutionary consequences for plant enemy interactions.
