11. Greening Earth? : Science, Politics and Land Use in the Kyoto Negotiations
Sammanfattning : Can a deliberate enhancement of the natural uptake of atmospheric carbon dioxide in forests and agricultural lands contribute to global efforts to mitigate anthropogenic climate change? This is a question that has generated a great deal of debate and controversy since the inception of the multilateral climate negotiations in the early 1990s. This thesis offers an analysis of how this debate has played out in the negotiations on the land-use change and forestry activities in the Kyoto Protocol. LÄS MER
12. Biology of Borrelia garinii Spirochetes
Sammanfattning : Lyme borreliosis is a tick-transmitted infectious disease. The causative agents are spiral-shaped bacteria and the most common sign of infection is a skin rash at the site of the tick bite. LÄS MER
13. Functional analyses of growth and development in the liverwort Marchantia polymorpha
Sammanfattning : Land plants developed from a freshwater charophycean algae about 500 million years ago. Today, they consist of two main clades, the vascular plants and the non-vascular bryophytes including hornworts, liverworts and mosses. LÄS MER
14. Using airborne eDNA to study ecosystem dynamics
Sammanfattning : In this era of global biodiversity crisis, the need to monitor ecological communities over space and time is more pressing than ever to effectively direct biodiversity conservation and management efforts. To understand the natural dynamics of an ecosystem, and the impact of anthropogenic activities related to environmental and climate change, long time series are needed to accurately link such processes to ecosystem change. 15. Network Based Tools and Indicators for Landscape Ecological Assessments, Planning, and Design
Sammanfattning : Land use change constitutes a primary driving force in shaping social-ecological systems world wide, and its effects reach far beyond the directly impacted areas. Graph based landscape ecological tools have become established as a promising way to efficiently explore and analyze the complex, spatial systems dynamics of ecological networks in physical landscapes.
