    Sammanfattning : Environmental factors influence species and habitats on multiple scales creating a mosaic of distribution patterns. Studying factors shaping these patterns are central to our understanding of population dynamics and ultimately ecosystem functioning. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Climate Related Impacts on a Lake From Physics to Biology

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Thorsten Blenckner; Uppsala universitet.; [2001]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Ecosystem processes; climate; phytoplankton; NAO; SCI; ice cover; modeling; Biologi; NATURAL SCIENCES Biology; NATURVETENSKAP Biologi; limnologi; Limnology;

    Sammanfattning : Climatic variation and change affect the dynamics of organisms and ecosystem processes. This thesis examines phytoplankton as a target variable to trace climatic impacts on Lake Erken (Sweden) with special emphasis on the spring bloom. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The importance of terrestrial carbon in plankton food webs

    Detta är en avhandling från Limnology, Department of Ecology, Lund University

    Författare :Cesar Bolivar Daniel; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2005]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; lakes; Ecology; carbon; zooplankton; Spumella elongata; Poterioochromonas malhamensis; flagellates; bacteria; stable isotopes; photochemistry; autochthonous; DOC; allochthonous; plankton; Ekologi; Hydrobiology; marine biology; aquatic ecology; limnology; Marinbiologi; limnologi; akvatisk ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Allochthonous substances, i.e. produced in terrestrial ecosystems, are known to fuel bacterial production in humic lakes. I observed that allochthonous carbon subsidizes bacteria even at high levels of phytoplankton biomass. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Ecology across Boundaries Food web coupling among and within ecosystems

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Pia Bartels; Uppsala universitet.; [2011]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cross-ecosystem; food web; habitat coupling; terrestrial-aquatic linkages; subsidy; allochthonous; lake ecosystem; population divergence; trait variation; NATURAL SCIENCES Biology Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; NATURVETENSKAP Biologi Terrestrisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; NATURAL SCIENCES Biology Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology Freshwater ecology; NATURVETENSKAP Biologi Terrestrisk; limnisk och marin ekologi Limnisk ekologi; NATURAL SCIENCES Biology; NATURVETENSKAP Biologi; Biology with specialization in Limnology; Biologi med inriktning mot limnologi;

    Sammanfattning : Cross-boundary movements of energy and material are ubiquitous. Freshwater ecosystems receive nutrients, dissolved, and particulate organic matter from adjacent terrestrial ecosystems, whereas terrestrial ecosystems mainly receive prey organisms and detritus deposited by physical processes such as floods from freshwater ecosystems. 5. 5. Explaining temporal variations in soil respiration rates and delta13C in coniferous forest ecosystems

    Detta är en avhandling från Örebro : Örebro universitet

    Författare :Daniel Comstedt; Örebro universitet.; [2008]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Autotrophic; Boreal forest; Elevated CO2; 13C; Natural abundance of stable isotopes; Picea abies; PLS; Root respiration; Soil respiration; NATURAL SCIENCES Biology; NATURVETENSKAP Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Soils of Northern Hemisphere forests contain a large part of the global terrestrial carbon (C) pool. Even small changes in this pool can have large impact on atmospheric [CO2] and the global climate. LÄS MER
