1. Nitric oxide in central nervous structures associated with water balance and micturition
Sammanfattning : The role of nitric oxide (NO) in the central control of water balance and micturition has not yet been established. In the present thesis, where female rats were used, neuronal NO synthase (nNOS) distribution was studied in structures of the central nervous system known to be associated with the above mentioned control. 2. Inducible nitric oxide synthase in experimental urinary tract infection
Sammanfattning : Urinary tract infection (UTI) is among the most common bacterial infections in humans and the majority are caused by Escherichia coli (E. coli). Abundant evidence indicates that nitric oxide (NO) produced by the inducible NO synthase (iNOS) plays an important role in host defense against infection. LÄS MER
3. Nitric oxide, formation and effects in the urogenital tract
Sammanfattning : The aim of the thesis was to study the formation and effects of nitric oxide (NO) in the human urinary tract and in the male reproductive organs. In the human upper and lower urinary tract NO synthase activity was studied via the formation of radiolabeled L-citrulline from L-arginine. LÄS MER
4. Aspects of the human enteric nervous system : A study of the normal development and of Hirschsprung's disease
Sammanfattning : Thirty patients with Hirschsprung's disease (HD) who underwent Rehbein's anterior resection, using a circular stapler to perform the anastomosis, were evaluated retrospectively. The postoperative complication rate and long-term functional outcome were similar to those reported by other investigators using the same and other techniques. LÄS MER
5. Harvesting of Saphenous Vein for Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting : An Improved Technique that Maintains Vein Wall Integrity and Provides a High Early Patency Rate
Sammanfattning : The primary aim of this thesis was to modify saphenous vein (SV) harvesting technique and evaluate its clinical importance. A new "no touch" (NT) technique of SV preparation was developed where the vein is harvested with a pedicle of surrounding tissue, which protects the vein from spasm therefore obviating the need for distension.
