  1. 1. Multiple-Bit Errors in Computer Systems

    Författare :Rolf Johansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fault sim ulation; fault tolerance; single event upsets; error-correcting codes; multiple-bit errors; transient faults; fault modelling; physical fault injection;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis discusses the types of transient faults caused by heavy-ion or a-particle radiation that manifest as multiple-bit errors and how information redundancy techniques can achieve fault tolerance with respect to some classes of multiple-bit errors. The first part of the thesis considers the fault modelling problem, beginning with the problem of how single event upsets (SEUs) originating from faults in register cells in microprocessors manifest as primary errors. 2. 2. On the Effects of Soft Errors in Embedded Control Systems

    Författare :Jonny Vinter; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fault tolerance; error recovery techniques; concurrent error detection; pre-injection analysis; embedded control systems; fault injection; soft errors; dependable software;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates techniques for making closed loop control systems fault-tolerant and robust with respect to soft errors occurring in the computer hardware. Soft errors are caused by transient faults that alter the binary values stored in latches, flip-flops and other state elements without causing any permanent damage to the hardware. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Towards active engine mounting systems for commercial vehicles: modeling and analysis

    Författare :Hoda Yarmohamadi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Nonlinear dynamic stiffness and damping; Actuators; Computational model; Conventional engine mount; Vibration isolation; Adaptronic mounting system; Model errors tolerance; Commercial vehicles;

    Sammanfattning : The vehicle engine mounting system, which consists of several mounts connecting the engine to the vehicle structure, not only supports the weight of the engine but also isolates the noise, vibration and the transmitted forces to the vehicle structure. At present conventional elastomeric mounts are widely used in engine mounting systems for commercial vehicles. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Verification of Distributed Erlang Programs using Testing, Model Checking and Theorem Proving

    Författare :Hans Svensson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; distributed algorithms; fault-tolerance; theorem proving; verification; distributed programming; Erlang; model checking; testing;

    Sammanfattning : Software infiltrates every aspect of modern society. Production, transportation, entertainment, and almost every other sphere that influences modern living are either directly or indirectly dependent on software systems. LÄS MER

    Författare :Filmon Yacob; Daniel Semere; Sophie Gröger; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Machining simulation; model-based prediction; variation propagation; variation source identification; variation compensation; tolerance analysis; Octree; anomaly detection; quaternion; dual quaternion; Plücker coordinate.; Maskinbearbetningssimulering; modellbaseradförutsägelse; variationsspridning; variationskällidentifiering; variationskompensation; toleransanalys; Octree; dual quaternions; Plücker-koordinat.; Production Engineering; Industriell produktion;

    Sammanfattning : All manufacturing processes inevitably induce variations into manufactured parts that may result in nonconformance. Nonconforming parts incur costs due to the additional process required for rework or scrap loss. Hence, methodical efforts to reduce these variations are necessary for competitive manufacturing.
