6. Repair of divided peripheral nerves : experimental studies in rabbit and rat
Sammanfattning : The general aim of this thesis was to provide new knowledge, through experimental studies, that may contribute to an improvement of the results after microsurgical peripheral nerve repair in patients. An adequate function of the human body depends, among other things, on a correctly functioning peripheral nervous system. 7. Genotoxic effects of systemic chemotherapy in cancer patients, with special focus on the relation between MSI, LOH and development of secondary cancers
Sammanfattning : Systemic chemotherapy results in both phenotypic and genotypic side effects. Genotoxicity posed by chemotherapy is a major concern since it induces DNA damage and instability in the patients’ genome. LÄS MER
8. Genetic factors in childhood cancer. Associations between tumors in childhood and adulthood, and prevalence of germline TP53 mutations
Sammanfattning : The etiology of childhood cancer is largely unknown. Approximately 1-10% of all childhood tumors are associated with known cancer predisposition syndromes. However, the contribution may be underestimated due to the failure to detect patients with genetic susceptibility for cancer when relying on known family pattern and anomalies. LÄS MER
9. Towards improved management of Lynch syndrome; ovarian cancer profiles, risk perception, knowledge and family perspectives
Sammanfattning : Lynch syndrome (hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer) is one of the most common hereditary cancer syndromes and predisposes to several cancer types, including cancer of the colorectum, endometrium and ovaries. Cancer develops at an early age and one third of the individuals are affected by a metachronous cancer. LÄS MER
10. Thymidylate synthase expression and mismatch repair protein expression in colorectal cancer
Sammanfattning : The tumour, node, metastasis (TNM) system, with the current staging and risk stratification methods for prognostication in colorectal cancer (CRC) has its limitations. The need for additional validated prognostic and predictive markers is particularly important in CRC stage II and III as some of these patients can be cured by surgery alone. LÄS MER
