  1. 1. Mitochondrial function in human skeletal muscle: with special reference to exercise and training

    Författare :Michail Tonkonogi; Högskolan Dalarna; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :aerobic metabolism; oxidative phosphorylation; mitochondria; oxygen utilisation; citrate synthase; ADP sensitivity; ATP; muscle fibres; hydrogen ions; lactate; free radicals; proton leak; uncoupling; exercise; aerobic metabolism; oxidative phosphorylation; mitochondria; oxygen utilisation; citrate synthase; ADP sensitivity; ATP; muscle fibres; hydrogen ions; lactate; free radicals; proton leak; uncoupling; exercise;

    Sammanfattning : The overall objective of this thesis was to study the adaptation of oxidative function in human skeletal muscle to acute exercise of different modes, intensities and durations, and to endurance training. The effects of endurance training on mitochondrial function were evaluated in cross-sectional and longitudinal studies by measurements of mitochondrial oxygen consumption in isolated mitochondria and permeabilised muscle fibres and measurements of mitochondrial ATP production rate in isolated mitochondria. 2. 2. Physiological demands of competitive elite cross-country skiing

    Författare :Magnus Carlsson; Michail Tonkonogi; Christer Malm; Eva Andersson; Högskolan Dalarna; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Performance capability; maximal oxygen uptake; lactate threshold; lean mass; double poling; power output; maximal speed; sprint skiing; distance skiing.; Hälsa och välfärd; Health and Welfare;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction Researchers have, for decades, contributed to an increased collective understanding of the physiological demands in cross-country skiing; however, almost all of these studies have used either non-elite subjects and/or performances that emulate cross-country skiing. To establish the physiological demands of cross-country skiing, it is important to relate the investigated physiological variables to the competitive performance of elite skiers. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The importance of body-mass exponent optimization for evaluation of performance capability in cross-country skiing

    Författare :Tomas Carlsson; Michail Tonkonogi; Christer Malm; Klavs Madsen; Högskolan Dalarna; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; allometric scaling; power-function modelling; maximal oxygen uptake; body mass; elite skiers; distance skiing; lactate threshold; double poling; sprint skiing; competition; power output; time trial; Hälsa och välfärd; Health and Welfare;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction Performance in cross-country skiing is influenced by the skier’s ability to continuously produce propelling forces and force magnitude in relation to the net external forces. A surrogate indicator of the “power supply” in cross-country skiing would be a physiological variable that reflects an important performance-related capability, whereas the body mass itself is an indicator of the “power demand” experienced by the skier. 4. 4. Effects of endurance exercise on mitochondrial efficiency, uncoupling and lipid oxidation in human skeletal muscle

    Författare :Maria Fernström; Kent Sahlin; Michail Tonkonogi; Roger Harris; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : During the last years the importance of muscle mitochondria, and mitochondrial function, not only for performance but also for health has been highlighted. The main function of the mitochondria is to produce ATP by oxidative phosphorylation (coupled respiration). LÄS MER
