1. The impact of railway vibration and noise on sleep
Sammanfattning : Sleep is a vital component of good health, and sleep loss is associated with impaired cognition, decreased psychomotor performance, cardiovascular disease, adverse effects on endocrine and metabolic function, negative mood, impaired memory, and more. A growing burden of freight transportation on global railway networks will likely lead to an increase in nocturnal vibration and noise at nearby dwellings. LÄS MER
2. The SHB adaptor protein in human and murine leukemia
Sammanfattning : The SHB adaptor protein operates downstream of tyrosine kinase receptors. It has been found previously that Shb deficiency in hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) results in less proliferation and failure to maintain the myeloid compartment over time. LÄS MER
3. Benefits of Pharmacometric Model-Based Design and Analysis of Clinical Trials
Sammanfattning : Quantitative pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic and disease progression models are the core of the science of pharmacometrics which has been identified as one of the strategies that can make drug development more effective. To adequately develop and utilize these models one needs to carefully consider the nature of the data, choice of appropriate estimation methods, model evaluation strategies, and, most importantly, the intended use of the model. 5. Submicrometre aerosol emissions from sea spray and road traffic
Sammanfattning : The uncertainty of the climate and health effects of aerosols is still large, one important reason being lack of knowledge of the primary emissions. This thesis combines laboratory and field experiments, and process modelling in an effort to better quantify the submicrometre aerosol emissions and to understand some of the processes in the atmosphere.
