1. A sensory role for the cruciate ligaments : regulation of joint stability via reflexes onto the γ-muscle-spindle system
Sammanfattning : Reflex effects evoked by graded electrical stimulation of the posterior articular nerves (PAN) of the ipsi- and contralateral knee joints were investigated using both micro-electrode recordings from 7 - motoneurones and recordings from single muscle muscle spindle afferents. Spindle afferent responses were also recorded using natural stimulation of different types of receptors, to elucidate if the articular reflexes onto the y -motoneurones were potent enough to significantly alter the muscle spindle afferent activity. 2. Transducer properties of a mechanoreceptor : an electrophysiological and pharmacological study of the crayfish stretch receptor
Sammanfattning : The abdominal stretch receptor organ of the crayfish, an analog to the human muscle spindle, contains one slowly adapting (SA) and one rapidly adapting (RA) receptor neuron. The general aims of this project were to elucidate, in the SA and RA neurons, the participation of voltagegated Na+ and K+ channels in overall transducer process and adaptation, and to study possible blocking agents specific to mechanosensitive (MS) channels. 3. Mechanisms of adaptation in a mechanoreceptor : a study of mechanical and ionic factors in the crayfish stretch receptors
Sammanfattning : The stretch receptor organ of the crayfish, an analog to the human muscle spindle, is a unique preparation for the study of mechanotransduction. The organ consists of a rapidly and a slowly adapting receptor each composed of a receptor muscle fibre into which inserts the dendrites of a multipolar sensory neuron. LÄS MER
4. Prolonged Modulation of the Micturition Reflex by Electrical Stimulation
Sammanfattning : Intravesical electrical stimulation (IVES) has been used in treatment of patients with urinary bladder dysfunctions for more than four decades. While some investigators have reported excellent results others have observed less convincing effects or outright failures. LÄS MER
5. The proprioception and neuromuscular stability of the basal thumb joint
Sammanfattning : OBJECTIVES: The basal thumb joint, or the first carpometacarpal joint (CMC1) is an enigmatic construction. The concavo-convex shape of the CMC1 and wide range of movement, allows for both precision and power grips and is particularly susceptible to the development of osteoarthritis. LÄS MER
