  1. 1. Generalization under Model Mismatch and Distributed Learning

    Författare :Martin Hellkvist; Ayca Özcelikkale; Anders Ahlén; Martin Jaggi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Machine learning; Signal processing; Generalization error; Training error; Double-descent; Double descent; Distributed learning; Distributed optimization; Learning over networks; Model mismatch; Model misspecification; Fake features; Missing features; linear regression; regularization; Machine learning; Maskininlärning;

    Sammanfattning : Machine learning models are typically configured by minimizing the training error over a given training dataset. On the other hand, the main objective is to obtain models that can generalize, i.e., perform well on data unseen during training. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Intra-abdominal Hypertension and Colonic Hypoperfusion after Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair

    Författare :Khatereh Djavani Gidlund; Martin Björck; Anders Wanhainen; Johan Valtysson; Martin Malina; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Abdominal aneurysm; Intra-abdomnial hypertension; Abdominal compartment syndrome; Colonic ischaemia; Colonic hypotension; Intra-abdominal pressure; rupture abdominal aortic aneurysm; Vascular surgery; Kärlkirurgi; Kirurgi; Surgery;

    Sammanfattning : Colonic ischaemia (CI), Intra-abdominal hypertension (IAH) and abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS) are devastating complications after abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) surgery. The aims of this thesis were to study the incidence and clinical consequences of IAH/ACS and the association between CI and intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) among patients undergoing OR for ruptured AAA (rAAA), to compare extraluminal pHi monitoring, with standard intra-luminal monitoring among patients operated on for AAA, and to study the frequency and clinical consequences of IAH/ACS after endovascular repair (EVAR) for rAAA.     Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Atmospheric science; Atmosfärsvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : This PhD thesis describes, from an engineering perspective, some of the preliminary steps that need to be implemented to facilitate the human exploration of Mars. It focuses on the development of a set of novel scientific or technology demonstrator instruments. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Opportunistic Content Distribution : A System Design Approach

    Författare :Sylvia Todorova Kouyoumdjieva; Gunnar Karlsson; Martin May; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : The penetration of smart pocket-size devices that provide constant Internet connectivity, such as mobile phones, has significantly changed the way people obtain, view and share information. Content provision is not anymore a prerogative to professionals; individuals are not solely customers, but also act as content generators and distributors. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Surface Studies of Model Systems relevant for Pd and Ag Catalysts

    Författare :Natalia Martin; Synkrotronljusfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; High Pressure X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy; X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy; alumina; Ag; NiAl; Pd; catalysis; model system; Surface X-ray Diffraction; Low Energy Electron Diffraction; Scanning Tunneling Microscopy; Fysicumarkivet A:2014:Martin;

    Sammanfattning : This PhD thesis reports on investigations of the atomic scale structure of model catalysts relevant for the catalytic oxidation of CO and methane over Pd, and NOx reduction over silver-alumina, important reactions in automotive catalysts. By using complementary experimental techniques such as X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, High Pressure X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, Surface X-ray Diffraction, Low Energy Electron Diffraction, Infrared Spectroscopy, and Scanning Tunneling Microscopy, combined with theoretical calculations, the work presented in this thesis aims at an atomistic characterization of the active sites for silver-alumina and Pd model catalysts which may help to the design of new and improved catalysts.
