  1. 1. Anatomical and physiological aspects of anorectal dysfunction

    Författare :Geert Morren; Anders Mellgren; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Anal canal; Anal-sphincter repair; Audit; Magnetic resonance imaging; Magnetic stimulation; Latency; Pelvic floor; Sacral roots; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Objective: To analyse the results of anal-sphincter repair; to examine the feasibility of motor latency measurements of the anal sphincter after magnetic sacral stimulation in healthy subjects, patients with a spinal cord injury and patients with faecal incontinence, using a new recording technique; to study, in the same 3 groups, the effects ofphasic magnetic sacral root stimulation on the anal sphincter and rectum; to describe normal, undisturbed anatomy of the anal canal and perianal structures in both men and nulliparous women using high-resolution phased array magnetic resonance imaging; to study pelvic floor movements in healthy volunteers of both sexes using a new instrument.Methods: Latencies were recorded with an intraanal, bipolar sponge electrode and an intrarectal ground electrode. 2. 2. Computational Models in Deep Brain Stimulation : Patient‐Specific Simulations, Tractography, and Group Analysis

    Författare :Teresa Nordin; Karin Wårdell; Simone Hemm-Ode; Johannes D. Johansson; Harith Akram; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Anisotropy; Deep brain stimulation DBS ; Finite element method FEM ; Patient‐specific simulation; Probabilistic stimulation maps PSM ; Tractography;

    Sammanfattning : Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is an established method for symptom relief in movement disorders like Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor (ET), and dystonia. The therapy is based on implanting an electrode with four contacts in the deep brain structures where it provides electrical stimulation, mainly impacting the nerve tracts. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Positron Emission Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Techniques in Diabetes

    Författare :Lina Carlbom; Håkan Ahlström; Olle Korsgren; Olof Eriksson; Lars Johansson; Tove Grönroos; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Positron emission tomography; Magnetic resonance imaging; Magnetic resonance spectroscopy; Type 1 diabetes; Type 2 diabetes; PET MR; Pancreas transplantation; Perfusion; Radiology; Radiologi;

    Sammanfattning : In order to further advance the field of diabetes research there is a great need for establishing validated non-invasive quantitative techniques to study the pancreas and other tissues of importance for blood glucose regulation. The general aim of this thesis was to explore magnetic resonance techniques and positron emission tomography as such tools. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Pelvic floor dysfunction. A vaginal surface EMG study in healthy and incontinent women

    Författare :Marianne Gunnarsson; Urologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nephrology; Urologi; nefrologi; Urology; vaginal surface EMG.; traumatic delivery; pelvic floor muscles; neuromuscular dysfunction; Female incontinence; magnetic stimulation;

    Sammanfattning : Dysfunction of the pelvic floor can lead to incontinence and different forms of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). Urinary incontinence is a common problem and about 500 000 persons in Sweden, mostly (2/3) women, suffering from incontinence. LÄS MER

  5. 5. To select one hand while using both : neural mechanisms supporting flexible hand dominance in bimanual object manipulation

    Författare :Anna Theorin; Roland Johansson; Fredrik Ullén; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; object manipulation; bimanual coordination; action selection; cerebral cortex; functional laterality; humans; hand; magnetic resonance imaging; transcranial magnetic stimulation; electromyography; Physiology; Fysiologi; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : In daily activities, the brain regularly assigns different roles to the hands dependingon task and context. Yet, little is known about the underlying neural processes. Thiscertainly applies to how the brain, where each hemisphere primarily controls onehand, manages the between-hand coordination required in bimanual objectmanipulation. LÄS MER
