  1. 1. Structure and function of MMP-2 and its inhibitor TIMP-2

    Författare :Ari Tuuttila; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Metalloproteinases; MMP-2; TIMP-2; extracellular matrix; crystallography; protein structure;

    Sammanfattning : Animal cells secrete various enzymes capable of degrading the extracellular matrix. One of the most studied groups of these are the matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). This group of zinc containing endopeptidases consists at present of 26 members and this number is still increasing. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Remodelling of extracellular matrix in rectal cancer and preoperative radiotherapy

    Författare :Eva Angenete; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :radiotherapy; rectal cancer; extracellular matrix; MMP-2; PAI-1; uPA; Calprotectin; TGF-beta1;

    Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND Preoperative radiotherapy reduces local recurrence due to rectal cancer, but increases postoperative morbidity. The aim of this thesis was to study the impact of radiotherapy on extracellular matrix (ECM) remodelling enzymes and growth factors after radiotherapy and also their possible use as surrogate markers for complications. 3. 3. Choroidal neovascularization (CNV) : clinical and experimental aspects

    Författare :Lennart Berglin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :CNV; angiogenesis; age-related macular degeneration; AMD; aging; surgery; endothelial cells; VEGF; MMP; TIMP; MMP-2; immunohistochemistry; ECM; RPE; Bruch s membrane; wound healing; inflammation; macrophages; in-situ hybridization; mRNA; immature vessels; MMP-9; TIMP- 3; MMP-2 deficiency;

    Sammanfattning : This work comprises different aspects of choroidal neovacularization (CNV); a leading cause of visual loss in the aged. It is an example of angiogenesis and a complication of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) The purpose was to study if patient age influences outcome of CNV surgery, to characterize the cellular content of CNV, to analyze the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and various matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) and their inhibitors (TIMP) in CNV and to study if MMP-2 influences experimental CNV growth. 4. 4. Matrix metalloproteinases and their inhibitors in ocular neovascularization

    Författare :Björn Steén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Angiogenesis; Neovascularization; Retina; Bruch membrane; Cornea; MMP; TIMP; VEGF; In situ hybridization.;

    Sammanfattning : Growth of pathological new vessels (angiogenesis) in the eye is a leading cause of severe vision-loss. Ocular angiogenesis is seen in the anterior part of the eye as in corneal neovascularization, or in the posterior part as in diabetic retinopathy, retinopathy of prematurity or age-related macular degeneration. 5. 5. The Role of Matrix Metalloproteinases in Leukocyte Transmigration in Murine Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis

    Författare :Smriti Agrawal; Tumörmikromiljö; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine human and vertebrates ; mouse; Multiple Sclerosis; Blood-brain barrier; MMP; Dystroglycan; EAE; Medicin människa och djur ;

    Sammanfattning : Murine experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) is a commonly used model in the investigation of the human disease multiple sclerosis (MS), a debilitating inflammatory disease of the central nervous system (CNS). MS and EAE involve multiple steps, primarily, auto-antigenic leukocyte (mainly T-cells and macrophages) crossing the blood-brain barrier and later their invasion into the CNS where they degrade myelin basic protein, eventually resulting in axonal degradation and CNS inflammation.
