    Sammanfattning : Leukotriene B4 (LTB4) is a potent proinflammatory lipid mediator that is involved in host defense and inflammatory diseases, such as atherosclerosis. LL-37 and heparin binding protein (HBP) are cationic antimicrobial polypeptides, which belong to the alarmin family known to promote innate and adaptive immune reactions in response to tissue infection or injury.     Sammanfattning : Studies in concordant (without preformed antibodies) rodent xenotransplantation (transplantation between species) models have focused, to date, on immunological disparities. In allotransplantation (transplantation within species), there is evidence suggesting that early ischemic events may contribute to later rejection episodes and to the development of chronicrejection features.     Sammanfattning : Sphingomyelin (SM) is present both in eucaryotic cells and the diet. Sphingomyelinase (SMase) hydrolyses SM and generates ceramide that has been implicated in the regulation of cell growth, differentiation and apoptosis.     Sammanfattning : The embryonic mouse inner ear was used as a model with which to study ototoxicity and tissue interactions. The inner ear anlage can be explanted and cultured in vitro from about the 12th gestational day (gd), and will differentiate parallel with the inner ear developing in vivo until a time corresponding to birth (21st gd).     Sammanfattning : Apoptosis is a kind of death that is best described as cellular suicide and it is important for normal tissue homeostasis.
