1. Dietary carbohydrate quality and health : focus on low-grade systemic inflammation and cardiometabolic risk factors
Sammanfattning : Dietary carbohydrate quality, characterized by content of whole grain (WG), dietary fiber, and sugars, is important for human health. Whole grain consumption and cereal fiber can reduce the risk of chronic disorders such as cardiovascular disease (CVD) and type 2 diabetes, an effect partly mediated by alterations in cardiometabolic risk factors and low-grade systemic inflammation. 2. MHD Stability and Confinement of Plasmas in a Single Mirror Cell
Sammanfattning : Thermonuclear fusion is a promising energy source for the future. If an economically efficient thermonuclear reactor would be built it has to be a cheap, safe, and highly productive electric power plant, or, a heating plant. LÄS MER
3. Modeling of magnetohydrodynamic turbulence
Sammanfattning : Conventional one-point turbulence closures have beenextended with an additional transported scalar for modeling ofmagnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence. The new scalar, α ,captures the length scale anisotropy and tendency towardstwo-dimensionality, which is characteristic feature of MHDturbulence, and allows accurate modeling of the Jouledissipation of turbulence. 4. Stabilisation of resistive-wall modes in fusion plasmas
Sammanfattning : For the success of thermonuclear fusion by magnetic confinement it is important to improve on the stability limits imposed by large-scale magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) instabilities. This thesis focuses on the stabilisation of the "resistive-wall mode" (RWM), an instability which affects high-pressure tokamaks but also Reversed Field Pinches (RFP). LÄS MER
5. Solitary waves and enhanced incoherent scatter ion lines
Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses solitary waves and their significance for auroral particle acceleration, coronal heating and incoherent scatter radar spectra. Solitary waves are formed due to a balance of nonlinear and dispersive effects. LÄS MER
