  1. 1. Developing tools for non-target analysis and digital archiving of organic urban water pollutants

    Författare :Cathrin Veenaas; Peter Haglund; Per Liljelind; Christine Gallampois; Mehran Alaee; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Digital archiving; non-target screening; organic pollutants; sewage sludge; GC-MS; GC×GC; LC-MS; time-trend analysis; retention indices; retention time prediction;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes efforts to develop robust methods for the creation and use of digital archives of environmental samples, and proposes guidelines based on the results. Digital archives are repositories that store environmental samples digitally. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Large Volume Injection and Hyphenated Techniques for Gas Chromatographic Determination of PBDEs and Carbazoles in Air

    Författare :Petter Tollbäck; Conny Östman; Tuulia Hyötyläinen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; large volume injection; hyphenated techniques; LC-GC; GC-MS; mass spectrometry; GC; gas chromatography; carbazoles; PBDE; polybrominated diphenyl ethers; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on studies in which the suitability of various gas chromatography (GC) injection techniques was examined for the determination of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and carbazoles, two groups of compounds that are thermally labile and/or have high boiling-points. For such substances, it is essential to introduce the samples into the GC system in an appropriate way to avoid degradation and other potential problems. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Damsel in distress – metabolomics as a novel tool to investigate the effects of wastewater exposure on damselfly larvae

    Författare :Jana Späth; Malin L. Nording; Jerker Fick; Stina Jansson; Tuulia Hyötyläinen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biomarkers; ecotoxicology; invertebrates; GC-MS; LC-MS; LC-MS MS; metabolomics; micropollutants; pharmaceuticals; risk assessment; ekotoxikologi; Ecotoxicology; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Aquatic organisms, such as aquatic invertebrates, are exposed to anthropogenic pollutants through their environment. These pollutants, despite their low levels, can adversely affect exposed individuals or even entire ecosystems, especially when present in complex mixtures. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Diagnosis of acute and chronic enteric fever using metabolomics

    Författare :Elin Näsström; Henrik Antti; Anders Johansson; Peter Spégel; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Enteric fever; Salmonella; chronic carriers; metabolomics; diagnosis; biomarkers; multivariate data analysis; GCxGC-MS; GC-MS; LC-MS;

    Sammanfattning : Enteric (or typhoid) fever is a systemic infection mainly caused by Salmonella Typhi and Salmonella Paratyphi A. The disease is common in areas with poor water quality and insufficient sanitation. Humans are the only reservoir for transmission of the disease. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Multi-platform metabolomics assays to study the responsiveness of the human plasma and lung lavage metabolome

    Författare :Masoumeh Karimpour; Malin Nording L.; Magnus Åberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; LC MS; GC MS; NMR; metabolomics; metabolite; exposure; postprandial; plasma; lung lavage; BW; BW; data analysis; univariate analysis; multivariate analysis;

    Sammanfattning : Metabolomics as a field has been used to track changes and perturbations in the human body by investigating metabolite profiles indicating the change of metabolite levels over time and in response to different challenges. In this thesis work, the main focus was on applying multiplatform-metabolomics to study the human metabolome following exposure to perturbations, such as diet (in the form of a challenge meal) and exhaust emissions (air pollution exposure in a controlled setting).
