  1. 11. Bacteriological aspects of treatment failures in streptococcal tonsillitis

    Författare :Eva Grahn; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ß-streptococci; treatment failure; a-streptococci; bacterial interference; beta-lactamase; Phenoxymethylpenicillin; penicillin tolerance;

    Sammanfattning : ß-hemolytic streptococci persist in 10-25% of patients with acute streptococal tonsillitis (about 10.000-25.000 per year in Sweden) in spite of treatment with a recommended dosage and schedule of Phenoxymethylpenicillin. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Chlamydia trachomatis is an obligate intracellular bacterium that infects over 100 million people globally every year. Chlamydia infections can be persistent, cause infertility and blindness, adding an economical burden in the healthcare systems. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Urinary tract infections in primary health care in northern Sweden : epidemiological, bacteriological and clinical aspects

    Författare :Sven Ferry; Bengt Mattsson; Lars Burman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Urinary tract infection UTI ; primary health care PHC ; epidemiology; clinical presentation; bacteriuria diagnosis; bacteriology; drug resistance; therapy;

    Sammanfattning : The epidemiology of urinary tract infection (UTI) in the population of Vännäs (8 000 inhabitants) was studied during one year. The annual incidence increased from 0.5% in the first decade of life to more than 10% in the age group 90-100 years. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Studies of Spotted Fever Rickettsia - Distribution, Detection, Diagnosis and Clinical Context : With a Focus on Vectors and Patients in Sweden

    Sammanfattning : The spotted fever rickettsia, Rickettsia helvetica, is an endemic tick-borne bacteria in Sweden. It causes infections in humans, manifested as aneruptive fever, headache, arthralgia and myalgia, and sometimes an inoculation eschar or a rash. There have also been two known cases of human infections with R. felis in Sweden. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Genetic subtypes in unicellular intestinal parasites with special focus on Blastocystis

    Författare :Joakim Forsell; Birgitta Evengård; Margareta Granlund; Tom van Gool; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Intestinal parasites; Blastocystis; Entamoeba; Giardia; molecular detection; PCR; subtype; intestinal microbiota; Sweden; Zanzibar; Clinical Bacteriology; klinisk bakteriologi;

    Sammanfattning : The development of molecular tools for detection and typing of unicellular intestinal parasites has revealed genetic diversities in species that were previously considered as distinct entities. Of great importance is the genetic distinction found between the pathogenic Entamoeba histolytica and the non-pathogenic Entamoeba dispar, two morphologically indistinguishable species. LÄS MER
