1. Studies on Natural Variation and Evolution of Photoperiodism in Plants
Sammanfattning : Photoperiodism refers to the organism’s ability to detect and respond to seasonal changes in the daily duration of light and dark and thus constitutes one of the most significant and complex examples of the interaction between the organism and its environment. This thesis attempts to describe the prevalence of variation in a photoperiodic response, its adaptive value, and its putative genetic basis in a common cruciferous weed, Capsella bursa-pastoris (Brassicaceae). 2. Aquaporins in Infection and Inflammation
Sammanfattning : The ability of eukaryotic cells to change their shape and to migrate directionally is highly dependent on active volume regulation in cells building up tissues as well as in individual cells. Transmembrane fluxes of water via specialized water channels, called aquaporins (AQPs), facilitate the changes of volume and shape, which additionally require a complex interplay between the plasma membrane and the cytoskeleton. 4.
Sammanfattning : State building has traditionally been viewed strictly as the prerogative of rulers. However, recent studies have been focusing more on the perspective of state building from below. Princes and central administrators needed the active support of their leading subjects. In most parts of Europe this meant the nobility and/or the rich merchant groups. LÄS MER
