  1. 1. Co-operative recombination mechanisms promoting gene clustering and lateral transfer of antibacterial drug resistance

    Författare :Masood Kamali-Moghaddam; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Tn5090 Tn402; Mu-like transposons; serine recombinases; res site; integrons; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; Pharmaceutical Microbiology; farmaceutisk mikrobiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Transposons of the Mu superfamily are widespread and have been shown to play an important role in the dissemination of antibiotic resistance among microorganisms. One of these elements, Tn5090/Tn402 is the basal vehicle of the type 1 integrons in which mobile resistance gene cassettes are inserted to form clusters and operons. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Modeling Biophysical Mechanisms underlying Cellular Homeostasis

    Författare :Padideh Kamali-Zare; Hjalmar Brismar; Charles Nicholson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biological physics; Biologisk fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Cellular homeostasis is the effort of all living cells to maintain their intracellular content when facing physiological change(s) in the extracellular environment. To date, cellular homeostasis is known to be regulated mainly by time-consuming active mechanisms and via multiple signaling pathways within the cells. LÄS MER

  3. 3. 3d Transition Metals Studied by Mössbauer Spectroscopy

    Författare :Saeed Kamali-Moghaddam; Roger Wäppling; Lennart Häggström; Friedrich Wagner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Mössbauer Spectroscopy; SQUID Magnetometry; XRD; Layered Structures; Magnetism; Magnetic Superlattices; Nanoparticles; Li-ion Batteries; Brass; Fysik; Physics; Fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Layered crystals with magnetic elements as Co and Fe have been studied. In TlCo2Se2, where Co atoms in one sheet are separated by Tl and Se from the next Co sheet, magnetic interaction within and between the sheets have been studied. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Subsystems of the basal ganglia and motor infrastructure

    Författare :Iman Kamali Sarvestani; Örjan Ekeberg; Jeanette Hällgren-Kotaleski; Christelle Baunez; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Basal Ganglia; Action Selection; Motor Learning; Tectum; Superior Colliculus; Mesencephalic Locomotor Region; Reticulospinal Neurons; Computational Models;

    Sammanfattning : The motor nervous system is one of the main systems of the body and is our principle means ofbehavior. Some of the most debilitating and wide spread disorders are motor systempathologies. In particular the basal ganglia are complex networks of the brain that control someaspects of movement in all vertebrates. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The work reported in this thesis presents a general overview of the resonant response of high-speed railway bridges considering soil-structure interaction. The study aims to identify the effect of the surrounding and underlying soil on the global stiffness and damping of the structural system. LÄS MER
