  1. 1. A sensory role for the cruciate ligaments : regulation of joint stability via reflexes onto the γ-muscle-spindle system

    Författare :Per Sjölander; Håkan Johansson; Uwe Windhorst; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Joint afferent; Mechanoreceptor; Cruciate ligament; Fusimotor neuron; reflex; muscle spindle afferent; motor control; cat;

    Sammanfattning : Reflex effects evoked by graded electrical stimulation of the posterior articular nerves (PAN) of the ipsi- and contralateral knee joints were investigated using both micro-electrode recordings from 7 - motoneurones and recordings from single muscle muscle spindle afferents. Spindle afferent responses were also recorded using natural stimulation of different types of receptors, to elucidate if the articular reflexes onto the y -motoneurones were potent enough to significantly alter the muscle spindle afferent activity. 2. 2. Chronic anterior cruciate ligament tear : knee function and knee extensor muscle size, morphology and function before and after surgical reconstruction

    Författare :Lars-Gunnar Elmqvist; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; knee joint; ligaments; articular; surgery; muscle fibre; isokinetics; exercise therapy; muscular atrophy; electromyography;

    Sammanfattning : Knee function was evaluated by knee score, activity level, clinical findings and performance tests, muscle size by computerized tomography (CT), morphology by light (LM) and electron microscopy (EM), muscle function by electromyography (EMG) and isokinetic performance in 29 patients with chronic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear. Preoperatively CT disclosed a significant mean atrophy of the quadriceps and nonsignificant changes of the other muscle areas of the injured leg. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Discharges in human muscle afferents during manual tasks

    Författare :Michael Dimitriou; Benoni Edin; Roger Lemon; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; motor control; muscle spindle; Golgi tendon organ; muscle afferent; microneurography; proprioception; sensorimotor; fusimotor; hand; forward model; ; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Muscle spindles are complex sensory organs that have been strongly implicated in the control and perception of movements. Human muscle spindles in relaxed muscles behave as stretch receptors, responding to the length and velocity of their parent muscles. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Wrist ligaments : innervation patterns and ligamento-muscular reflexes

    Författare :Elisabet Hagert; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Wrist ligaments; mechanoreceptors; proprioception; sensorimotor functions; neuromuscular control; ligamento-muscular reflexes; immunohistochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Objectives: The principal role of wrist stability is to facilitate the dexterous hand in a multitude of functions. To achieve joint stability, in general, a fine interaction of both static and dynamic elements is of essence. LÄS MER

  5. 5. New functional and anatomical aspects of the organisation of human peripheral nerve

    Författare :Rolf Ekedahl; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Somatosensory system; Peripheral nerve organisation; somatotopy; modalitysegregation; cutaneous mechanoreceptors; Human.Huddinge 1996;

    Sammanfattning : The functional topography of peripheral nerves has been studied by various indirect electrophysiological and histological methods. Even though some studies have suggested the presence of a somatotopical arrangement of nerve fibres, the prevailing view is that a random distribution of nerve fibres develops in the nerve due to the repeated rearrangement of nerve fascicles along their centripetal course.
