  1. 16. Defence capabilities of human intestinal epithelial cells

    Författare :Anna Fahlgren; Sten Hammarström; Marie-Louise Hammarström; Gudmundur Gudmundsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; intestine; mucosa; epithelium; antimicrobial; defensins; glycocalyx; ulcerative colitis; Crohn´s disease; celiac disease; Immunologi; Immunology; Immunologi; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : The epithelial cells lining the intestinal mucosa separate the underlying tissue from components of the intestinal lumen. Innate immunity mediated by intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) provides rapid protective functions against microorganisms. Innate immunity also participates in orchestrating adaptive immunity. 2. 17. Chronic stress and intestinal barrier function: Implications for infection and inflammation in intensive salmon aquaculture

    Författare :Henrik Sundh; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Intestinal barrier function; stress; cortisol; Ussing chamber; welfare; health; inflammation; neutrophils; cytokines; chronic stress;

    Sammanfattning : Aquaculture is a fast growing food-producing sector worldwide. This has increased the awareness among the public as well as governments of the need to secure the welfare and health of farmed fish. Atlantic salmon is, in non-Asian countries, one of the most successful aquacultured species. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Innate and adaptive immunity in childhood celiac disease

    Författare :Göte Forsberg; Marie-Louise Hammarström; Riccardo Troncone; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : Celiac disease (CD) is an inflammatory small-bowel enteropathy caused by a permanent intolerance to wheat gluten and related proteins in rye and barley. Even though the disease originate from the small intestine the clinical symptoms varies in affected individuals and are often different in small children compared to adolescents and adults. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Studies on glycosphingolipids in infection, immunity and differentiation

    Författare :John Benktander; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glycosphingolipids; Mass spectrometry; Helicobacter pylori BabA; Vibrio cholerae; Human embryonic stem cells; Glycosyltransferase; PX2;

    Sammanfattning : Cell surface glycoconjugates play a role in many biological processes such as responses to microbial infections, cell-cell interactions, differentiation, and inflammatory responses. The present work is focused on structural characterization of glycosphingolipids with potential roles in adhesion of Helicobacter pylori and Vibrio cholerae, differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells, and as blood group determinants. 5. 20. Development of the gastrointestinal tract in young mammals : Effects of enteral provocation with protease or phytohaemagglutinin in neonatal rats

    Författare :Ester Arevalo Sureda; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Nyckelord :gut; Intestine; Pancreas; development; precocious; protease; PHA; enterocytes; permeability; endocytosis; IgG; FcRn; Blimp1; T-lymphocyte; passive immunity; altricial; neonatal; suckling; athymic; rat; immunohistochemistry IHC ;

    Sammanfattning : The rat, as an altritial species, is born with an immature gastrointestinal tract and intestinal barrier function, which is highly absorptive to milk-borne bioactive molecules that can pass undigested and reach the general circulation of the suckling newborn. This passage occurs by the neonatal-Fc-receptor (FcRn) binding and trancytosis of immunoglobulin G in the proximal small intestine (SI) and by the highly endocytic vacuolated enterocytes non-selectively in the distal SI.
