Sammanfattning : The aim of this doctoral thesis is to examine how parents in Sweden at the beginning of the twenty-first century use the process of naming as a resource to contribute to the creation of various identities for both themselves and their child. It is based on a two-component study — a postal survey and qualitative group interviews, both conducted in the city of Göteborg, Sweden — and includes parents with children born during 2007 and 2008. 19. "Är han en jätte, nej han är liten, en bebis" : Ålderskategorisering i förskolan
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis is to explore the meaning of age in the social world of preschool and age as a discursive resource in daily practices. In relation to this aim, the following specific research questions are raised: (i) How do preschool children practice age categories and what interactional goals are achieved through categorical work in interaction with other children and with teachers? (ii) In what ways is the institutional order of preschool handled and produced through the participants' categorical work? (iii) How and in what ways are age categories discursive resources in the participants' socialization practices? Data were generated through a year of field work during which participant observation was carried out among a group of preschool children aged 3–5 years. LÄS MER
20. Födandets sociala utformning : språkliga och kroppsliga praktiker i förlossningsrummet
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the social construction of birth by analyzing the interaction between the participants present in the delivery room. The data is drawn from 79 video recordings of birth. Six are unedited research recordings and the remaining 73 were edited for pedagogical, documentary and entertaining purposes. LÄS MER
