  1. 1. Insulin-like Growth Factor System: functional role and regulation in carcinomas

    Författare :Ann Rosendahl; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cancerology; oncology; Cytology; PTEN; Transforming Growth Factor-beta; Insulin-like Growth Factor; Renal Cell Carcinoma; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : The insulin-like growth factor (IGF) system demonstrates numerous actions during neoplastic growth and is therefore an interesting target with potential clinical implications. While numerous studies have established important roles of the IGF system in regulating cellular growth and survival of several tumor forms, very limited reports exist regarding its role in renal cell carcinoma (RCC). 2. 2. Regulation of insulin-like growth factor-II in human liver

    Författare :Henrik von Horn; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :IG17-II; IGF2; IGFBPs; liver; hepatoblastoma; GH; hypoxia;

    Sammanfattning : Insulin-like growth factors-I and -II (IGF-I and -II) are mitogens in a number of cell types and also have insulin-like actions. IGF-II has an autocrine role in a variety of malignancies; and hypoglycemia is well documented in conditions associated with elevated IGF-II precursor forms in the circulation. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Insulin-like growth factor-II : cellular effects through different receptors

    Författare :Qimin Zhang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Insulin-like growth factor-II (IGF-II) and IGF-I are single-chain polypeptides structurally homologous to proinsulin and share similarities with insulin in functional characteristics. Cellular actions of IGF-II are generally thought to be mediated through the IGF-I or insulin receptors, but not the IGF-II receptor, which is a single chain protein, identical to the cation independent mannose 6-phosphate (M6P) receptor and responsible for lysosomal enzyme targeting and degradation of IGF-II. 4. 4. Proteolysis of insulin-like growth factor-binding protein-1, -2 and -4 : function of fragments

    Författare :Katrin Brandt; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Insulin-like growth factor;

    Sammanfattning : The insulin-like growth factors (IGF-I and IGF-II) stimulate cell growth, survival and differentiation, and have insulin-like activity. A family of six IGF-binding proteins (IGFBP-1 through -6) bind to IGFs with high affinity and modulate their activity in the circulation and locally at cell-surface receptors. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Prolactin and growth hormone in breast cancer. Studies of human breast cancer and transgenic tumor models

    Författare :Maria Gebre-Medhin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prolactin; growth hormone; breast cancer; transgenic mice; estrogen receptor; insulin-like growth factor; insulin-like growth factor-I receptor;

    Sammanfattning : Prolactin (PRL) and growth hormone (GH) are two related pituitary peptide hormones of importance during normal mammary gland development. Furthermore, their involvement in development and growth of malignant mammary tumors has been suggested by several investigators. LÄS MER
