    Sammanfattning : Paper I: In paper I, we asked how a tree should optimally allocate its resources to maximize its fitness. We let a subject tree grow in an environment shaded by nearby competing trees. The competitors were assumed to have reached maturity and had stopped growing, thus creating a static light environment for the subject tree to grow in. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : In both the private and work spheres, multitasking among three or more activities has become and is continuing to evolve as a pervasive element of everyday life, and recent technological advances only seem to be exacerbating the process.     Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of four papers examining the impact of international competition on Swedish manufacturing and labor market during the 1990s. By using detailed individual and firm-level information I aim to investigate how increased exposure to international trade, in terms of both export orientation and import penetration, affects technology development, profitability and wage structure.     Sammanfattning : Historical demographic research is central to understanding past human behaviours and traits, such as fertility, mortality and migration. An essential part of historical demography is conducting longitudinal analyses at the micro-level, which involves the detailed follow-up of individuals over long time periods throughout their lives.
