  1. 1. Automated behavioral phenotyping of inbred mouse strains and mouse models of Alzheimer disease

    Författare :Alina Codita; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Behavioral characterization of various mouse strains created as models for human diseases such as Alzheimer disease requires robust phenotyping methods. Previous work on inbred mouse strains has shown that some of the widely used behavioral methods yield inconsistent results across laboratories, in spite of standardization efforts. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Genetic analysis of murine malaria

    Författare :Susana Campino; Dan Holmberg; Nils Lycke; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Malaria; genetic analysis; Plasmodium; wild derived inbred strains; loci; cerebral malaria; hyperparasitaemia.; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; genetik; Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Malaria, an infectious disease caused by Plasmodium parasites, is one of the major world-scale health problems. Despite the efforts aimed at finding an effective way to control the disease, the success has been thwarted by the emergence of parasite drug resistance and mosquito resistance to insecticides. 3. 3. The analgesic mechanisms of buprenorphine

    Författare :Poli Francois Kouya; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Buprenorphine; morphine; cross-tolerance; g- opioid receptors; inbred mice.;

    Sammanfattning : Buprenorphine, a derivative of thebaine, is a semi-synthetic opiate and a partial p-opioid receptor agonist. Buprenorphine is also a weak kappa-opioid receptor antagonist. Buprenorphine is used clinically as an analgesic and for maintenance therapy of opiate-dependent subjects because it produces limited withdrawal symptoms. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Genetic regulation of nerve injury-induced neurodegeneration and inflammation

    Författare :Maria Swanberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Neurodegeneration and inflammation in the central nervous system (CNS) are hallmarks of several neurological disorders, including multiple sclerosis (MS), Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. The susceptibility of an individual to these conditions is complex, i.e. influenced by both genetic and environmental factors. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Studies on host-related pathogenesis of herpes simplex type-1 encephalitis in rat

    Författare :Biborka Bereczky-Veress; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : In order to explore the molecular mechanisms of Herpes simplex encephalitis (HSE), a severe infection of the central nervous system (CNS) caused by Herpes simplex type 1 virus (HSV-1); a rat model resembling the human condition was characterized in the DA (Dark Agouti) strain. After injection into the whiskers’ area HSV-1 entered the CNS at the level of the brain stem via the trigeminal ganglion, subsequently spreading to the thalamus, cortex and olfactory bulb, leading to death at five days post infection (dpi).
