1. Radiolabelled Oligonucleotides for Evaluation of in vivo Hybridisation Utilising PET Methodology
Sammanfattning : Antisense oligonucleotides (ODN) may interfere in gene expression on the basis of hybridising to its complementary messenger RNA (mRNA) sequence in the cell thereby preventing the synthesis of the peptide. Therefore, these ODNs may be potential drugs to treat human diseases by “knocking down” the expression of responsible genes or correcting the maturation process of mRNA in the field called antisense therapy. 2. Assessment of human swallowing using in-vivo and in-vitro approaches
Sammanfattning : Texture modification is the most vital strategy to manage dysphagia: a condition in which food and beverages are difficult to swallow. Typically thickeners in the form of starch or gums are added to the food to increase the viscosity and thereby reduce the speed of bolus flow. LÄS MER
3. Comparative in vivo and in vitro studies on the biomechanics of maxillary partial dentures. A methodological and experimental study
Sammanfattning : Biomechanical aspects are generally agreed to be significant, particularly during the planning of restorative treatments and the design of prosthetic appliances. However, comparative in vivo/in vitro studies show wide differences in the magnitudes and patterns of functional strains in prosthetic devices. LÄS MER
4. On the role of surface properties for implant fixation : From finite element modeling to in vivo studies
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to gain a deeper understanding of the factors contributing to the fixation of bone-anchored implants, especially with regard to surface chemistry, surface topography and implant loading. The methodology used in the thesis ranges from systematic bench studies, computer simulations, experimental in vivo studies, to load cell measurements on patients treated with bone-anchored amputation prostheses. 5. Mechanisms of Osseointegration: Experimental Studies on Early Cellular and Molecular Events in vivo
Sammanfattning : The early cellular and molecular activities determining the early tissue response and bone formation at bone/implant interface are not fully understood. The general aim of the current thesis was to develop a model for studying the early molecular and cellular activities in different bone types, and in response to different implant surface properties.
