1. Pathogenesis and immunotherapy of streptococcal septicemia and shock
Sammanfattning : Streptococei have been recognized as important causes of severe sepsis. Increased frequencies of streptococcal toxic shock syndrome caused by group A streptococcus (GAS) have been noted worldwide during the last 15 years. LÄS MER
2. Studies of immunopathogenic mechanisms and treatment of chronic, inflammatory myopathies, myositis
Sammanfattning : Polymyosit (PM), dermatomyositis (DM) and sporadic inclusion body myositis (sIBM) are chronic inflammatory myopathies which are characterized by muscle weakness, fatigue and extra-muscular involvement. Mononuclear inflammatory cells are typically found in muscle tissue. LÄS MER
3. Studies in sporadic inclusion body myositis
Sammanfattning : Aims: The general aims of the present study were to increase the understanding of the disease process in s-lBM by analysing the cytoskeletal structure in muscle fibres and their regeneration potential; and also to evaluate sensory function in patients with s-IBM to test the hypothesis of an associated neurogenic component or a concomitant neuropathy in s-IBM; and to evaluate therapeutic options by analysing the effect of IVIg treatment on the muscle inflammation; and to evaluate the effect of training on muscle function and muscle inflammation. Patients: Twenty-six patients with the diagnosis of s41BM participated in these studies. LÄS MER
4. Immune moldulatory effects of intravenous immunoglobulin in vitro and after allogeneic bone marrow transplantation
Sammanfattning : Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) has been used in patients with immunodeficiencies and various autoimmune diseases. Its immune modulatory effect is well documented. In allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (BMT) IVIG has been used to reduce the incidence of infections and graft-versus-host-disease (GVHD). LÄS MER
5. The role of autoantibodies in inflammatory myopathies
Sammanfattning : Polymyositis (PM), dermatomyositis (DM) and inclusion body myositis (IBM), collectively called myositis, are chronic inflammatory myopathies. These disease subsets are heterogeneous but share some features, such as skeletal muscle weakness and inflammatory cell infiltrates in muscle tissue. LÄS MER
