1. Quantitative in situ analysis of initial atmospheric corrosion of copper induced by carboxylic acids
Sammanfattning : The interaction of carboxylic acids with copper is a phenomenon found both outdoors and, more commonly, indoors. The influence on copper of some carboxylic acids (formic, acetic, propionic, and butyric) have so far been studied at concentrations levels at least three or four orders of magnitude higher than actual indoor conditions (< 20 ppb, volume parts per billion), and with only limited emphasis on any mechanistic approach. 2. Atmospheric corrosion of zinc-aluminum and copper-based alloys in chloride-rich environments : Microstructure, corrosion initiation, patina evolution and metal release
Sammanfattning : Fundamental understanding of atmospheric corrosion mechanisms requires an in-depth understanding on the dynamic interaction between corrosive constituents and metal/alloy surfaces. This doctoral study comprises field and laboratory investigations that assess atmospheric corrosion and metal release processes for two different groups of alloys exposed in chloride-rich environments. 4. Molecules at stellar death: from the winds of massive evolved stars to supernova remnants
Sammanfattning : Massive stars play a key role in the chemical and dust budget of the galaxy, producing heavy elements, molecules, and dust. At the end of their lives they evolve through stages of significant mass-loss which affect the subsequent evolution of the star, including whether or not it will eventually explode as a supernova (SN). 5. Methanol masers reveal the magnetic field of a high mass protostar
Sammanfattning : The role played by magnetic fields in high-mass star formation is not yet fully clear. Theoretical simulations have shown that magnetic fields appear to suppress fragmenta- tion in the star forming cloud, to enhance accretion via disc and to provide feedback in the form of outflows and jets.
